National Prize For Humanities And Social Sciences (Chile)
The National Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences ( es, Premio Nacional de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales) was created in Chile in 1992 under Law 19169. It is granted "to the humanist, scientist, or academic, who has distinguished himself for his contribution in the field of Human science, Human Sciences" (Article 8 of the aforementioned law). The history field has its own Chilean National History Award, National Award. The prize, which is awarded every two years, consists of a diploma, the sum of 6,576,457 Chilean peso, pesos () which is adjusted every year, according to the previous year's consumer price index, and a pension of 20 (approximately US$1,600). It is part of the National Prize of Chile, awarded by the President of Chile, President of the Republic. Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in the western part of South America. Manuel Antonio Garretón
Manuel Antonio Garretón (Santiago, May 23, 1943) is a Chilean sociologist, political scientist and essayist. He received the National Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences in 2007 for his lifetime contribution to the field. Scholarly and academic career Garretón studied Sociology in the Catholic University of Chile and graduated in 1967. He received his PhD at the '' École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales'' of Paris. He directed the Catholic University of Chile's Centro de Estudios de la Realidad Nacional (CEREN) from 1970 until its closing in 1973. He also edited CEREN's journal ''Cuadernos de la Realidad Nacional'' during those same years. In 1973, he was the Dean of the Area of Interdisciplinary Social Studies at the Catholic University. Tomás Moulian Emparanza (born 21 September 1939) is a Chilean political scientist and sociologist. A Guggenheim Fellow and winner of the National Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences, he is known for being a critic of the socio-economic structure of his country after the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Biography The brother of historian , and uncle of businessman , Tomás Moulian studied sociology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC), and did postgraduate studies at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Belgium and Paris. Roberto Torretti (February 15, 1930 - November 12, 2022) was a Chilean philosopher, author and academic who is internationally renowned for his contributions to the history of philosophy, philosophy of physics and philosophy of mathematics. Biography Torretti received a doctorate from the University of Freiburg under the supervision of Wilhelm Szilasi in 1954.
