National Patriotic Coalition
The National Patriotic Coalition (in Spanish: ''Coalición Patriótica Nacional'', CPN) was a Panamanian conservative nationalist political party. It was founded in advance of the election of 1952 to support the presidential aspirations of Colonel José Antonio Remón Cantera, head of the Military of Panama, National Police. Its six original members were the Renewal Party (PREN), Liberal Party (Panama), Liberal Party “del Matadero” (PL), National Revolutionary Party (Panama), National Revolutionary Party (PNR), Authentic Revolutionary Party (PRA), Popular Union Party (PUP) and Patriotic Youth Front (FJP). In 1953 the CPN, a coalition of several parties, was reorganized as a single party. Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement
The Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement ( es, Movimiento Liberal Republicano Nacionalista, MOLIRENA) is a centre-right conservative-liberal political party in Panama. History The MOLIRENA was founded on October 21, 1981, by the now-defunct Third Nationalist Party, National Patriotic Coalition, National Liberation Movement and factions that had earlier split off from the National Liberal Party and Republican Party. This party evolved as part of an alliance of traditional, oligarchy-controlled, and primarily conservative organizations that opposed both the government and the military. Third Nationalist Party
The Third Nationalist Party (in Spanish: ''Tercer Partido Nacionalista'', TPN) was a Panamanian conservative, radical nationalist political party. The Third Nationalist Party was founded in 1959 by Aquilino Edgardo Boyd de la Guardia (a member of the old ruling families and oligarch) and Gilberto Arias Guardia (son of the former President Harmodio Arias Madrid and nephew of the former President Arnulfo Arias ). In the 1950s, Aquilino Boyd was a prominent National Patriotic Coalition (CPN) leader. He served as Foreign Minister of Panama (1956–58). In 1958, Aquilino Boyd left the CPN in a disagreement with then President Ernesto de la Guardia. Aquilino Edgardo Boyd De La Guardia
Aquilino Edgardo Boyd de la Guardia (March 30, 1921 in Panama – September 4, 2004 in Panama City, Panama) was a Panamanian politician, diplomat and lawyer. Aquilino Boyd was born in 1921 in Panamá. He married Dora Brin. He studied in La Salle, Panama City, Holy Cross College, US, University de la Habana and University of Panama. Aquilino Boyd, a member of one of the old ruling families and oligarch, he served as foreign minister of Panama (1956–58), permanent representative to the United Nations (1962–76), member of National Assembly for five terms (1948–52, 1956–60, 1960–64, 1964–68, 1968–69), president of the National Assembly (1949). National Liberation Movement (Panama)
The National Liberation Movement (in Spanish: ''Movimiento de Liberación Nacional'', MLN) was a Panamanian right-wing liberal political party. It was created in 1959 by Temístocles Díaz Q., a son of the late President Domingo Díaz Arosemena and a prominent National Patriotic Coalition (CPN) leader and First Vice-President under Ernesto de la Guardia (1956–1960). A formal split in the CPN took place on 27 May 1957 when Temístocles Diaz Q. broke with the CPN and took with him six deputies of the former Popular Union Party and Authentic Revolutionary Party. The reason for the split was general dissatisfaction with the president's political leadership. Alcibíades Arosemena Quinzada (20 November 1883, in Los Santos Province – 8 April 1958, in Panama City) was a Panamanian politician, who served 15th President of Panama. He was elected as the third presidential designate by the National Assembly in 1945. The National Liberal Party ( es, Partido Liberal Nacional) was a liberal party in Panama. The party was an observer at Liberal International. The party was formed in 1903 out of the Panamanian branch of the Colombian Liberal Party, shortly after Panama declared independence. The PNL merged with Solidarity Party (Partido Solidaridad) to form the new Patriotic Union Party (Unión Patriótica) in 2009. Arnulfo Arias
Arnulfo Arias Madrid (15 August 1901 – 10 August 1988) was a Panamanian politician, medical doctor, and writer who served as the President of Panama from 1940 to 1941, again from 1949 to 1951, and finally for 11 days in October 1968. Throughout his adult life, he warned about the increasing influence of the military in Panamanian politics and vowed to reduce its influence. In turn, he was denied his presidential electoral success in 1948 by the military. He was removed from his duly-elected presidency three times by military coups.
