National Democratic Party (Slovenia)
The National Democratic Party ( sl, Narodno demokratska stranka) or NDS was a short lived Slovenian conservative political party, established with the split within the Slovenian Democratic Union in 1991. In October 1991, the majority within the Slovenian Democratic Union decided to change the name of the party to ''Slovenian Democratic Union - National Democrats'' and adopted a conservative platform for the coming elections. As a result, the left liberal faction, led by the party chairman Dimitrij Rupel left the party and founded the Democratic Party (they later joined the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia). In the elections of April 1992, the Democratic Party gained 5,01% of the popular vote and 6 MPs, while the National Democrats only 2,2% of the vote and no seat in Parliament. As a result, the party merged with the Slovene Christian Democrats, where they established a special faction within the party. Rajko Pirnat
Rajko Pirnat (born March 24, 1951, in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian politician, lawyer and academic. From May 16, 1990, to May 14, 1992, he was the Minister of Justice for Slovenia as a member of the Slovenian Democratic Union. In that role, he introduced a denationalization act to undo some of the damage caused by unjust post-war expropriations from 1945 to 1963. When his party split, he led the new center-right National Democratic Party, but it fared very poorly in the 1992 Slovenian presidential and parliamentary elections. He is a law professor at the University of Ljubljana and a former dean of its faculty of law. Slovene Christian Democrats
The Slovene Christian Democrats ( sl, Slovenski krščanski demokrati, SKD) was a Christian-democratic political party in Slovenia between 1989 and 2000. It was founded as the Slovene Christian Social Movement in March 1989. Its first president was Peter Kovačič Peršin. In November of the same year, it was renamed to Slovene Christian Democrats, and Lojze Peterle was elected as its president. Between 1990 and 1992, it was the largest party within the DEMOS coalition.
