National CBRN Defence Centre
The National CBRN Defence Centre ( sv, Totalförsvarets skyddscentrum, SkyddC, , Total Defense Protection Center) is a Swedish military unit with expertise regarding chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense used by both the army, marines and the air force. The unit has been existing in different forms since 1953. Totalförsvarets skyddscentrum is localised together with Västerbottensgruppen (UG 61) within Umeå Garrison (also known as Umestan), which is the barracks that previously were used by Västerbotten Regiment. History The center has its origin from the gas technicians who were employed in the Swedish Armed Forces in the 1930s. In 1953 the Army ABC-Defence School (''Arméns skyddskola'') was formed within Swedish Infantry Combat School (InfSS) in Rosersberg. The Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS) was a United States government defense-funded organization that was absorbed into the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) but its funding and personnel did not transfer. For all practical purposes it ceased its massive operations (80,000 reports since 1957) in 1970, and gradually wound down to virtually nothing under FBIS by 1997. The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) was an open source intelligence component of the Central Intelligence Agency's Directorate of Science and Technology. General (Sweden), General Owe Erik Axel Wiktorin (born 7 May 1940) is a retired Swedish Air Force officer. Wiktorin was Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces from 1994 to 2000. His time as Supreme Commander was marked by major cutbacks of the Swedish defense. Early life Wiktorin was born on 7 May 1940 in Motala, Sweden, the son of Erik Wiktorin, a chief accountant, and his wife Esther (née Johnson). ''Folkbladet'' (Swedish: ''The People's Paper'') is a Swedish-language newspaper published in Norrköping, Sweden. The paper has been in circulation since 1905. History and profile The paper was founded by workers with the name ''Östergötlands Folkblad'' in 1905. In 1998 it was renamed ''Folkbladet''. The paper is headquartered in Norrköping and is owned by the Norrköping Tidningar AB (NTM Group). The company acquired the paper in 2000.
