__NOTOC__ NAVCA (the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action) is the national membership body for local support and development organisations in England. It is a registered charity (1001635), based in Sheffield, and was previously called the National Association of Councils for Voluntary Service (NACVS). History The Councils for Voluntary Service National Association was a project of NCVO. In 1991, this project became independent and was named the National Association of Councils for Voluntary Service (NACVS). The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is the umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector in England. It is a registered charity (no 225922). NCVO works to support the voluntary and community sector and to create an environment in which an independent civil society can flourish. Joe Irvin
Joseph David Irvin is an ex-charity leader who until 2020 was the chief executive of Living Streets, the UK charity that campaigns for pedestrians. He started his career as policy officer for the Trades Union Congress before moving onto various roles including Director of Education and Research at the Transport and General Workers' Union. He has in the past served as Director of Parliamentary Affairs for the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) and Director of Public Affairs for BAA In 1997 he moved into the political arena as special advisor to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and eventually went on to replace John McTernan as Political Secretary to Gordon Brown during his term as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Council For Voluntary Service
Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) is a type of organisation in England - "the place at which local voluntary and community organisations speak to each other". They offer a wide variety of services and support for other local organisations, for example training, or advice on funding. CVSs are also involved in advocacy for the organisations they represent, and aid in communication between the local voluntary and community sector and the statutory sector. They will typically provide fora for organisations to meet, often a Community empowerment network, and will interact with, or have a seat on, the local strategic partnership. They may also advocate on behalf of the organisations they represent on a one to one basis. A CVS may or may not incorporate the local Volunteer Centre. Christopher Mark Francis White (born 28 April 1967 in Australia) is a British Conservative Party politician and was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Warwick and Leamington from 2010 to 2017. He lost the seat at the 2017 general election. White is currently Director of the Institute for Industrial Strategy at King's College London.
