National Assembly (Guyana)
The National Assembly is one of the two components of the Parliament of Guyana. Under Article 51 of the Constitution of Guyana, the Parliament of Guyana consists of the President and the National Assembly. The National Assembly has 65 members elected using the system of proportional representation. Twenty five are elected from the ten geographical constituencies and forty are awarded at the national level on the basis of block votes secured, using the LR-Hare Formula as prescribed by the elections Laws (Amendment) Act 15 of 2000 (Sections 11 and 12). The National Assembly is presided over by the Speaker who may be elected from the members of the National Assembly or from outside the membership. Unicameral
Unicameralism (from ''uni''- "one" + Latin ''camera'' "chamber") is a type of legislature, which consists of one house or assembly, that legislates and votes as one. Unicameral legislatures exist when there is no widely perceived need for multicameralism (two or more chambers). Cesar Castellani
Cesar Castellani (died 2 August 1905) was an architect. He was born in Malta. He was attracted by the prosperity of British Guiana and emigrated there in 1860 with a group of Italian priests. Designs Castellani designed a number of prominent buildings in Guyana, including Brickdam Cathedral; Castellani House, once the Guyana Prime Minister's residence; the Brickdam Police Station; and the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. He made alterations and additions to the Church of the Sacred Heart on Main Street (1872-1882), which opened in 1861, for the colony's Madeiran labourers. The design of the Victoria Law Courts, credited to Baron Harco Theodor Hora Siccama, has Castellani's signature style, and Castellani was working for Siccama as a draughtsman. Arthur Chung Convention Centre
The Arthur Chung Conference Centre is a convention and exhibition centre in Georgetown, Guyana. It is located next to the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community. Overview The convention centre was constructed in 2006, and was initially named Guyana International Conference Centre. The convention centre is a gift from the People's Republic of China, and became the preferred location for venues, and was often used by CARICOM for conferences. In 2015, the centre was renamed to Arthur Chung Conference Centre in honour of Arthur Chung, the first president of Guyana who was of Chinese ( Hakka Han) ethnicity. The Chinese Government had offered a 10-year agreement for repairs. In 2016, the centre closed for repairs and reconstruction.
