Nate Mills
Nathaniel Lincoln Mills (born February 15, 1970) is an American speed skater. He was a three-time Olympian, competing at the 1992 Winter Olympics, 1994 Winter Olympics and, after a three-year retirement, 1998 Winter Olympics, when he was captain of the U.S. Olympic speedskating team. He also competed at the 1991 World Winter Universiade where he won a bronze in the 1,000 m; at the 1989 and 1991 World Championships, placing second in the 500 in 1991. Mills transitioned into coaching following his competitive skating career. In the late 1990s, he helped coach the Canadian national team in Calgary. In 2002, Mills co-founded DC-ICE, a program that introduces youth in Washington, D.C. to skating sports. This program introduced Maame Biney, a member of the 2018 and 2022 U.S. Olympic short-track speedskating team, to the sport. Mills has worked with other Olympians including Shani Davis. Speed Skating
Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors racing, race each other in travelling a certain distance on Ice skate, skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". The International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of competitive ice sports, refers to long track as "speed skating" and short track as "short track skating". An international federation was founded in 1892, the first for any winter sport. The sport enjoys large popularity in the Netherlands, Norway and South Korea. Jessica Mills
Jessica Mills Kincade is an American former competitive figure skater. She is the 1989 World Junior champion and 1994 Skate Canada International bronze medalist. Personal life Jessica Mills is the sister of Olympic gymnast Phoebe Mills. She is now known as Jessica Mills Kincade. Career Having become interested in skating at age five, Mills trained in Janesville, Wisconsin and Boston before moving to Torrance, California in 1986 to train under Barbara Roles. She placed fourth on the junior level at the 1988 U.S. Championships. She was included in the U.S. team to the 1989 World Junior Championships after a leg injury led another skater to withdraw. Mills placed fourth in the compulsory figures, second in the short program, and first in the free skate. She was awarded the gold medal ahead of Japan's Junko Yaginuma and France's Surya Bonaly at the event, which was held in December 1988 in Sarajevo. Phoebe Mills
Phoebe Mills (born November 2, 1972, in Northfield, Illinois) is an American attorney and Olympic medalist who has been active in the sports of artistic gymnastics, diving, speed skating and snowboarding. Personal life Before becoming a gymnast, Mills was a record-holding competitive speed skater. Her brother, Nathaniel Mills, competed in speed skating at the 1992 Winter Olympics, the 1994 Winter Olympics, and the 1998 Winter Olympics, and her sister Jessica Mills won the 1989 World Junior Figure Skating Championships. She is a 2004 graduate of Vermont Law School, with a degree in environmental law. Following her graduation from law school, she owned her own small environmental law firm near Londonderry, Vermont. She currently resides in California directing Woodward at Tahoe. She is married and has a young daughter. Shani Davis
Shani Earl Davis (; born August 13, 1982) is an American former speed skater. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, Davis became the first African American athlete to win a gold medal in an individual event at the Olympic Winter Games, winning the speedskating 1000 meter event. He also won a silver medal in the 1500 meter event. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he repeated the feat, becoming the first man to successfully defend the 1000 meters and repeating as the 1500 meter silver medalist. Davis won the silver medal at the 2004 World Allround Speed Skating Championships. He then proceeded to win the World Allround Championships in both 2005 and 2006. Maame Biney (born January 28, 2000) is an American short track speed skater who competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Early life Biney was born in Accra, Ghana. At age five, she relocated to the United States to live with her father. Biney began skating when she was six years old in Northern Virginia. She began figure skating but switched to speed skating on a coach's recommendation. Career Biney won the bronze medal in the 500-meters at the 2017 World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships. She made her senior team debut later that year winning the America's Cup at the U.S Speedskating Short Track World Cup Qualifier.
