Natasha J. Caplen
Natasha Jane Caplen is a British-American geneticist who discovered RNA interference (RNAi) in mammalian cells. She is a senior investigator and head of the functional genetics section at the National Cancer Institute. Education Caplen completed a Ph.D. from the King's College Hospital Medical School where she studied the genetics of type I diabetes and its complications. Her dissertation in 1991 was titled, ''A Study of the Genetics of Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus and its Microvascular Complications''. Caplen's postdoctoral training began at St Mary's Hospital Medical School where she focused on the development of gene therapy approaches for cystic fibrosis (CF) during which she was involved in some of the first pre-clinical and clinical studies of cationic lipid mediated gene therapy for CF. King's College Hospital Medical School
GKT School of Medical Education (abbreviated: GKT) is the medical school of King's College London. The school has campuses at three institutions, Guy's Hospital ( Southwark), King's College Hospital ( Denmark Hill) and St Thomas' Hospital ( Lambeth) in London – with the initial of each hospital making up the acronymous name of the school. University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital are also teaching hospitals for GKT School of Medical Education. The school in its current guise was formed following a merger with the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals on 1 August 1998.
