Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely aerobic in nature and requires stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity. 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships
The 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships were hosted in the city of Aarhus in Denmark. It was the 43rd edition of the championships and was held on 30 March 2019. A part of the course was run on the grounds and grass roof of the Moesgaard Museum. The race was held in challenging conditions, due to the very muddy course and steep hills. The senior men's race was won by Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, while the senior women's race was won by Kenyan Hellen Obiri. Schedule In keeping with past events, all five races, including the mixed relay, were held in the middle of the day. The junior races preceded the senior races, and the senior men's event concluded the program. Tanzania At The 2019 African Games
Tanzania competed at the 2019 African Games held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. Athletes representing Tanzania competed in two sports, athletics and judo, and did not win any medals. Athletics Tanzania competed in several events in athletics. Ali Khamis Gulam and Benjamini Michael Kulwa competed in the men's 200 metres and men's 400 metres events. Regina Deogratius Mpigachai competed in the women's 800 metres event. She competed in the heats and did not advance to compete in the final. Gabriel Gerald Geay competed in the men's 1500 metres. He was also scheduled to compete in the men's 5000 metres event but he did not start. Natalia Elisante Sulle and Sara Ramadhani competed in the women's half marathon event. Sulle finished in 7th place and Ramadhani did not finish. 2019 African Games
The 12th African Games was held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. This was the first time that the African Games were hosted by Morocco following the country's readmission to the African Union in January 2017. Bidding process The 12th African Games was schedule in September 2019. Accra, Nairobi and Lusaka announced that they would bid for these Games, but none of them were selected. Malabo, Equatorial Guinea was initially chosen to organise the 2019 African Games at the Second Ordinary Session of the Specialist Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports, which was held at the headquarters of the African Union, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 13 to 17 June 2016. However, Equatorial Guinea was unable to host the Games due to economic problems. Lusaka, the capital of Zambia was later speculated to host the Games but refused, citing lack of facilities.
