Nasreena Ibrahim is a Maldivian public figure, former First Lady of the Maldives from 1978 until 2008, and the wife of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. Nasreena is one of the founding members of the Society for Health Education (SHE), a charity based Non-governmental organisations in the Maldives, that works in a variety of health fields, but particularly in thalassemia and women's health. Naseema Mohamed (also known as Masodi Naseema Kaleygefaanu) was the former First Lady of the Maldives (1968–1978) and the third wife of former President Ibrahim Nasir. Laila Ali Abdulla ( dv, ލައިލާ އަލީ އަބްދުالله) is a Maldivian activist and First Lady of the Maldives from 11 November 2008 until 7 February 2012. She is the wife of the fourth President of the Maldives, president of the second Republic of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed and mother of two girls Meera Laila Nasheed & Zaaya Laila Nasheed. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom (; dv, މައުމޫން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމް; born 29 December 1937) is a Maldivian politician and an Islamic scholar who served as the President of Maldives from 1978 to 2008. After serving as Minister of Transport, he was nominated as President by the Majlis (Parliament) of the Maldives and succeeded Ibrahim Nasir in 1978. He was defeated in the October 2008 presidential election. In opposition, he continued to serve as leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party until January 2010, when he retired from active politics. However, in September 2011, he returned to Maldivian politics as the leader of the newly formed Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), whose candidate Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Maumoon's half-brother, was victorious in the 2013 presidential elections. Mulee'aage (Dhivehi: މުލިއާގެ, pronounced ) is the "Official Residence of the President of the Maldives". The Mulee'aage is located in the ward of ''Henveiru'' in the historic center of Malé. It is in close proximity of the Medhu Ziyaarai shrine, the Friday Mosque, and the ''Munnaru'' (Grand Minaret of Malé). :''Theemuge should not be confused with the House of Theemuge - the first dynasty of sultanates of the Maldives. Theemuge (Dhivehi: ތީމުގެ) is the site of the former presidential palace of Maldives in the Maafannu Ward of the capital, Malé. Upgraded to presidential standards in 1992 by then-president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, Theemuge served as the presidential palace until 2008, when Gayyoom was overthrown in the country's first democratic election. Mohamed Nasheed, the newly elected president deemed Theemuge of too high maintenance and re-declared Muliaage, the old presidential palace as the new Official Residence of the Maldives. Thalassemia
Thalassemias are inherited blood disorders characterized by decreased hemoglobin production. Symptoms depend on the type and can vary from none to severe. Often there is mild to severe anemia (low red blood cells or hemoglobin). Anemia can result in feeling tired and pale skin. There may also be bone problems, an enlarged spleen, yellowish skin, and dark urine. Slow growth may occur in children. Thalassemias are genetic disorders inherited from a person's parents. There are two main types, alpha thalassemia and beta thalassemia. The severity of alpha and beta thalassemia depends on how many of the four genes for alpha globin or two genes for beta globin are missing. Diagnosis is typically by blood tests including a complete blood count, special hemoglobin tests, and genetic tests. Diagnosis may occur before birth through prenatal testing.
