Laila Ali Abdulla
Laila Ali Abdulla ( dv, ލައިލާ އަލީ އަބްދުالله) is a Maldivian activist and First Lady of the Maldives from 11 November 2008 until 7 February 2012. She is the wife of the fourth president of the second Republic of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed and mother of two girls Meera Laila Nasheed & Zaaya Laila Nasheed. Activism Work Abdulla's husband, Mohammed Nasheed, was the Maldives first democratically elected president (2008–2012). In 2014, Nasheed was found guilty of terrorism on false charges and sentenced to 13 years in prison. Ali Abdulla worked alongside Nasheed's lawyer, Amal Clooney, to get his charges overturned. Malé (, ; dv, މާލެ) is the capital and most populous city of the Maldives. With a population of 252,768 and an area of , it is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The city is geographically located at the southern edge of North Malé Atoll ( Kaafu Atoll). Administratively, the city consists of a central island, an airport island, and four other islands governed by the Malé City Council. Mohamed Nasheed GCSK (; born 17 May 1967) is a Maldivian politician and activist currently serving as the 19th speaker of the People's Majlis since May 2019. A founding member of the Maldivian Democratic Party, he served as President of the Maldives from 2008 until his resignation in 2012. He is the first democratically elected president of the Maldives and the only president to resign from office. Born in Malé, Nasheed was educated overseas before returning to the Maldives and becoming involved in political activism. Mulee'aage (Dhivehi: މުލިއާގެ, pronounced ) is the "Official Residence of the President of the Maldives". The Mulee'aage is located in the ward of ''Henveiru'' in the historic center of Malé.
