Narvik Station
Narvik is a railway station located in Narvik Municipality in Nordland, Norway on the Ofoten Line. The station is located in the town of Narvik, about from the line terminus at the Port of Narvik. It is served by three daily passenger trains from, respectively, Kiruna, Luleå and Stockholm in Sweden. These passenger services are currently operated by Vy. The station is located at an elevation of above sea level and is located from Stockholm. It was opened in 1902 along with Ofotbanen and the Iron Ore Line. The station at Narvik is the northernmost station in the Schengen Area and the northernmost standard-gauge railway station in the world. It represents the northern terminus for one of Europe's most celebrated night trains. European route E6 ( no, Europavei 6, sv, Europaväg 6, or simply E6) is the main north-south thoroughfare through Norway as well as the west coast of Sweden. It is long and runs from the southern tip of Sweden at Trelleborg, into Norway and through almost all of the country north to the Arctic Circle and Nordkapp. The route ends in Kirkenes close to the Russian border. Ofotfjord ( or ) is a fjord in Nordland county, Norway. It is an inlet of the Norwegian Sea, located about north of the Arctic Circle. The long Ofotfjord is Norway's 12th longest fjord and it is also the 18th deepest, with a maximum depth of . Lappmarken was an earlier Swedish name for the northern part of the old Kingdom of Sweden inhabited by the Sami people. In addition to the present-day Swedish Lapland, it also covered Västerbotten, Jämtland and Härjedalen, as well as the Finnish Lapland. As a name, it is related to Finnmark, an old Norwegian name for the Sami area. "Finn" and "Lapp" are mutually exchangeable old names for the Sami people, although the latter is sometimes deemed offensive.
