Nansemond River High School
Nansemond River High School is a public secondary school in Suffolk, Virginia, United States. It opened in September 1990 and originally consisted of students from two of the three former high schools of Suffolk, now middle schools, John F. Kennedy Middle School and John Yeates Middle School. Nansemond River opened its doors to approximately 1700 students. The student population swelled to nearly 2000 students in 2003, and in 2004, a new high school, King's Fork, was formed. As a result, Nansemond River's population dropped in the 2004-2005 school year to about 1100 students. However, the following year, the school opened its doors to about 1200 students once again. The current principal is Dr. Shawn Green, and the assistant principals, or administrators, are Tina Paul, Kimberly Warholak, and Darrell Medley. The dean of students is Stevie Green. Suffolk is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as such has no county. As of the 2020 census, the population was 94,324. It is the 9th most populous city in Virginia and the largest city in Virginia by boundary land area as well as the 14th largest in the country. Western Branch High School
Western Branch High School is a suburban high school in Chesapeake, Virginia, USA. Established in 1968, it currently has over 2200 students. The two feeder schools of WBHS are Joliff Middle School and Western Branch Middle School. After it was determined that redistricting due to the opening of Grassfield High School was not going to impact WBHS, a $40,000,000 construction project was funded to accommodate the larger student body and modernize the technology and facilities. This construction included a two-story wing, providing natural lighting for the students, and renovation of the rest of the school. Oscar F. Smith High School (also known as Smith High or OSHS) is a public high school with an enrollment of approximately 2,200 students in grades 9- 12. The school is located on a campus in the Greenbrier West area of the city of Chesapeake, Virginia, United States. History A new brick building for the school was built on Rodgers Street in South Norfolk, to replace the aging South Norfolk High School. When South Norfolk merged with Norfolk County to form the city of Chesapeake in 1963, Smith High became part of the new city. The school opened in 1954 and was named after Oscar Frommel Smith (25 October 1891 – 4 May 1950), a Hampton Roads fertilizer magnate and civic leader, who had recently died and whose widow, Ruth, offered the school the $50,000 if it would name the new stadium after her husband. Indian River High School is a high school in Chesapeake, Virginia. As of the 2018-19 school year, it had approximately 1700 students. History The school originally opened in the fall of 1963 for 7th graders. From that day forward they were always the 'seniors' at Indian River Junior High. In their Junior 67-'68year the school board was petitioned and the school was upgraded to Indian River Senior High. There were approximately 185 students that graduated in 1969. Their dedication and pride got the school accredited. They set the traditions in motion. A mother of one of the students wrote the Alma Mater, they picked the school colors, the mascot. Great Bridge High School
Great Bridge High School is a public secondary school in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States. It is part of Chesapeake City Public Schools. History Great Bridge opened in 1907, holding students from 1st through 12th grade. Another larger building opened in 1924, which also housed students from 1st through 11th grade. In 1954, Great Bridge moved to another new larger building which accommodated students in 6th through 12th grade. This building has now become the site of Great Bridge Middle School.
