Nangolo Mbumba (cropped)
Nangolo Mbumba (born 15 August 1941) in Olukonda, Namibia. He is a Namibian politician who currently serves as the 2nd vice president of Namibia. A member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Mbumba has headed a number of Namibian ministries: Agriculture, Water and Rural Development (1993–1996), Finance (1996–2003), Information and Broadcasting (2003–2005) Education (2005–2010), and Safety and Security (2010–2012). In 2012 he became the secretary-general of SWAPO serving until 2017. Education and early career Born on 15 August 1941 in Olukonda, Oshikoto Region, Mbumba graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in the United States with a BSc in 1971. The vice-president of Namibia serves as the acting President of Namibia when the President is outside the country's borders, unable to fulfill the duties of the office, or when the Presidency is vacant. The Vice-President is also a member of the National Assembly and the Cabinet. The Vice-President is constitutionally required to 'assist the President in the execution of the functions of government,' and may be assigned any government portfolio by presidential proclamation. Helmut Angula
Helmut Pau Kangulohi Angula (born 11 November 1945) is a Namibian businessman, politician, former cabinet minister and writer. He is currently the director of various private companies, after leaving government in 2010, and a longtime member of the central committee and the politburo of the ruling SWAPO party. Biography Angula was born in Ontananga, Oshikoto Region, and joined SWAPO in 1963, just three years after the movement's founding. Angula holds a M.Sc Degree from Voronezh State University in the USSR. During his time with SWAPO, Angula served as the deputy principal of the Health and Education Center in Nyango, Zambia from 1975–1976 and then rose to director of the center until 1977. Cuanza Sul Province ("South Cuanza"; Umbundu: Kwanza Kombuelo Volupale) is a province of Angola. It has an area of and a population of 1,881,873. Sumbe is the capital of the province. Oshikoto is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, named after Lake Otjikoto. Its capital is Omuthiya. The South West Africa People's Organisation (, SWAPO; af, Suidwes-Afrikaanse Volks Organisasie, SWAVO; german: Südwestafrikanische Volksorganisation, SWAVO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Olukonda
Nangolo Mbumba, Olukonda is a settlement in the Oshikoto Region in the north of Namibia. It is the district capital of the Olukonda Constituency, Olukonda electoral constituency. During colonial time of German South West Africa the missionary station and settlement was known as the ''Capital of the North''. Olukonda has been the place of the first missionary station to the Ovambo people, founded in 1870 by Finnish Missionary Society, Finnish missionaries. In the 1880s Martti Rautanen, nicknamed ''Nakambale'', became missionary at Olukonda and initiated the building of a church in 1889, and a missionary house in 1893. Both the church and the mission station buildings are still existent and have been declared National Monuments of Namibia in 1992. Together they are now known as the ''Olukonda National Monument''.
