Nancy N. Roberts is a translator of Arabic literature. She won the University of Arkansas Translation Award for her translation of Ghada Samman's '' Beirut '75''. She also received a commendation from the judges of the 2008 Banipal Prize for her translation of Salwa Bakr's ''The Man from Bashmour''. Early life and education She was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology and religious studies at Western Kentucky University. Then she did a graduate degree in M.S.Applied linguistics from Indiana University Bloomington and went abroad. She lived in Lebanon for one year and five years in Kuwait and returned for about 7 years and she did M.A.Arabic language and Literature at Indiana University. Naguib Mahfouz
Naguib Mahfouz Abdelaziz Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Basha ( arz, نجيب محفوظ عبد العزيز ابراهيم احمد الباشا, ; 11 December 1911 – 30 August 2006) was an Egyptian writer who won the 1988 Nobel Prize in Literature. Mahfouz is regarded as one of the first contemporary writers in the Arabic literature, along with Taha Hussein, to explore themes of existentialism. He is the only Egyptian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. He published 35 novels, over 350 short stories, 26 screenplays, hundreds of op-ed columns for Egyptian newspapers, and seven plays over a 70-year career, from the 1930s until 2004. All of his novels take place in Egypt, and always mentions the lane, which equals the world. His most famous works include '' The Cairo Trilogy'' and ''Children of Gebelawi''. Taha Jabir Alalwani
Taha Jabir Al-Alwani (طه جابر علواني), Ph.D. (1935 – March 4, 2016), was the President of Cordoba University in Ashburn, Virginia, United States. He also held the Imam Al-Shafi'i Chair in the Islamic Legal Theory at The Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences at Corboda University. Al-Alwani concentrated on the fields of Islamic legal theory, jurisprudence (fiqh), usul al-fiqh, Qur'anic sciences, and general Islamic thought. Al-Alwani was founder and former chairman of the Fiqh Council of North America. Muhammad Sa'id Ramadan Al-Buti
Mohammed Said Ramadan Al-Bouti ( ar, مُحَّمَد سَعِيد رَمَضَان ٱلْبُوطِي, Muḥammad Saʿīd Ramaḍān al-Būṭī) (1929 - 21 March 2013) was a notable Sunni Muslim scholar who was also known as "Shaykh of the Levant". He was killed during the Syrian civil war, reportedly in a bomb explosion, though "many questions about the death" have been raised by videos of the scene. Called a "prolific writer whose sermons were regularly broadcast on television", and "more familiar to Syrian TV viewers than anybody other than President Bashar al-Assad", Al-Bouti wrote more than sixty books on various Islamic issues, and was considered an important scholar of the approach based on the Madhhab, four schools of Sunni Islam and the orthodox Ash'arism, Ash'arite creed. Ezzat El Kamhawi ( ar, عزت القمحاوي) is an Egyptian novelist and journalist. In December 2012, El Kamhawi was awarded the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature for his novel '' House of the Wolf''. In June 2022 he was awarded the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press (Opinion Piece category) for his article "Suspicious architecture: The obsession with grand buildings and wide streets". House Of The Wolf
House of the Wolf (''Bayt al-Deeb'', ar, بيت الدِّيب) is Ezzat el Kamhawi's fourth novel and eighth book. It was first released in Arabic language in 2010 by Dar Al-Adab in Beirut. In December 2012, el Kamhawi was awarded the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature award for this novel, the English edition was released in 2013 by AUC Press. The translation was done by Nancy Roberts.
