Kyabram & District Football League
The Kyabram District Football League (KDL) is an Australian rules football league in Victoria. It is made up of 15 teams; the most recent additions include Dookie United in 2018 and Shepparton East in 2019. The KDL is made up of smaller country town football clubs in the Goulburn Valley. Goulburn Valley Freeway
Goulburn Valley Highway is a highway located in Victoria, Australia. The section north of the Hume Freeway is part of the Melbourne to Brisbane National Highway (together with Hume Freeway) and is the main link between these two cities as well as a major link between Victoria and inland New South Wales. It is also the most direct route between Melbourne and the major regional centre of Shepparton in Victoria (via the Hume Freeway). Lake Nagambie on the Goulburn River is the largest waterbody in the region, and Nagambie, Victoria, Nagambie is the main town. The first vineyards and winery were established in the area in 1860. Tahbilk was the original winery, and still produces some wine from vines planted in the 1860s. Mitchelton Wines is another significant winery, established in 1969. The key varieties in the region include shiraz, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, marsanne and merlot. Slightly more red than white wine is produced. Goulburn Valley Wine Region
Goulburn Valley wine region is a wine region in the state of Victoria in Australia. It is part of the Central Victoria zone and roughly corresponds to the Goulburn Valley tourist and government region. The first vineyards and winery were established in the Goulburn Valley in 1860. Tahbilk was the original winery, and still produces some wine from vines planted in the 1860s. The Australian Geographical Indication "Goulburn Valley" has been protected since 29 November 1999. Tahbilk was founded by a syndicate which raised £25,000 to develop the winery. By 1875 trade with England had been established, and the winery was producing the equivalent of 70,000 cases of wine per year. Due to the sandy soil, Tahbilk was able to withstand the spread of Phylloxera, and in 1925 was the only winery in the area. The Shire of Strathbogie is a local government area in the Hume region of Victoria, Australia, located in the north-east part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018 had a population of 10,645. It includes the towns of Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, Strathbogie and Violet Town. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of parts of the Shire of Euroa, Shire of Goulburn, Shire of Violet Town, Shire of McIvor and Rural City of Seymour. Black Caviar (foaled 18 August 2006) is a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who was undefeated in 25 races, including 15 Group Ones, an Australian record. She was the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 WTRR World Champion Sprinter. Black Caviar was trained by Melbourne-based trainer Peter Moody. Goulburn Weir
Goulburn Weir is a weir built between 1887 and early 1891 across the Goulburn River near Nagambie, Victoria, Australia. It was the first major diversion structure built for irrigation development in Australia. The weir also forms Lake Nagambie where rowing regattas and waterskiing tournaments are held. The Goulburn Weir allows water to be diverted by gravity via the Stuart Murray Canal and Cattanach Canal for off-river storage in the Waranga basin, for later use in irrigation. The weir is 209 metres long by about 16 metres high. Its design was considered very advanced for its time, so much so that it featured on the back of half-sovereign and ten-shilling notes from 1913 to 1933, including on the first Australian banknote ever issued. The structure also contained one of the first hydro-electric turbines in the southern hemisphere, used to supply power for lifting and lighting.
