Taiwan Space Agency (TASA), formerly the National Space Organization (NSPO), is the national civilian space agency of the Republic of China (Taiwan), under the auspices of the National Science and Technology Council. TASA is involved in the development of space technologies and related research. Vision and Mission TASA was founded in order to develop and conduct researches on aerospace and natural science in Taiwan. Its mission is to be a center of innovation and excellence for space technology and to develop space programs that applies Taiwan's strength and global competitiveness. Organization TASA headquarters and the main ground control station are in Hsinchu. Formosat-5
Formosat-5 (Formosa Satellite 5; ) is the first Earth observation satellite manufactured and operated solely by the National Space Organization, the national civilian space agency of Taiwan. The satellite was launched from a Falcon 9 rocket on 24 August 2017, and placed into a Sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of about 720 km. Formosat-5 can capture color and more detailed monochrome images, along with measuring the ionosphere plasma's properties. Wu Tsung-hsin
Wu Jong-shinn (吳宗信, also Wu Tsung-hsin) is a Taiwanese scientist, professor, and administrator. He is the director general of the National Space Organization (NSO or NSPO). Education and career In 1986 he received a BS in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University and a MS in the same field from the same school in 1988. In 1994 he received a PhD in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan. Upon returning to Taiwan he went to work for the NSO and stayed there for two years. In 1998 he joined the faculty of National Chiao Tung University and has spent his career there becoming a distinguished professor. His specialization is in system engineering, hybrid rocket propulsion and plasma physics.
