NET Ministries
NET Ministries, also simply known as NET USA or NET (National Evangelization Teams) is a Catholic youth missionary organization. History NET Ministries was founded in the United States and is based in Saint Paul, Minnesota in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. NET's roots go back to the St. Paul Catholic Youth Center (CYC), which offered a variety of programs from 1939 to 1989. In 1980, NET's founder Mark Berchem, through CYC, organized eighteen high school youth retreats around southern Minnesota. Young adults traveled in a van giving these retreats over a three-week period in January. The following January three teams of youth were sent to Winona, Minnesota, Fargo, North Dakota, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1981 these missions extended to a full year commitment. In 1982 the acronym NET (standing for National Evangelization Team) became name of this movement, inspired by Mark 1:17 and Luke 5:4. World Youth Day (WYD) is an event for young people organized by the Catholic Church that was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985, sometimes nicknamed in later years as the "Catholic Woodstock". Its concept has been influenced by the Light-Life Movement that has existed in Poland since the 1960s, where during summer camps Catholic young adults over 13 days of camp celebrated a "day of community". The vocations are the life as layman in the world, either married or single, the ordained life and the consecrated life. Life Teen is a Catholic youth ministry organization and movement in the United States. According to Life Teen, "Eucharist-based ministry has the power to transform teens, parishes, and culture". Life Teen is best known for its parish-based programs. The Life Teen program for high-school teenagers is used by over 1,800 Catholic parishes in 31 countries. In 2003, they launched the Edge program for middle-school pupils, which is now used by almost 1,000 parishes in 10 countries. The Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) is a Catholic outreach program for American college students founded in 1997 by Curtis Martin and Dr. Edward Sri at Benedictine College. Origin and purpose FOCUS exists to evangelize. The mission statement of FOCUS is to "Know Christ Jesus and fulfill His great commission." How FOCUS does that is by sending missionaries to college campuses to encounter students and invite them into a lifelong relationship with Jesus.
