NESS Energy Project
The NESS Energy Project is an incinerator currently in full operation in Aberdeen, UK. It is situated in East Tullos Industrial Estate on a site formerly used for gas storage. History In February 2022, construction workers staged a walkout in a dispute over unpaid wages. Operation The facility is designed to burn up to 150,000 tonnes of material per year, consisting of non-recyclable waste from Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, and Moray Council. The facility will be operated by Acciona, who were awarded a contract worth approximately 400 million euros (£371 million) for the construction of the facility and its operation over 20 years. Incinerator
Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of substances contained in waste materials. Aberdeenshire Council
Aberdeenshire ( sco, Aiberdeenshire; gd, Siorrachd Obar Dheathain) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland. Incinerator bottom ash (IBA) is a form of ash produced in incineration facilities. This material is discharged from the moving grate of municipal solid waste incinerators. Once IBA is processed by removing contaminants, it can be used as an aggregate. Following processing, the material is termed ''IBA aggregate'' or ''processed IBA''. The aggregate uses include: * Bulk fill * Asphalt * Cement bound materials * Lightweight blocks * Pavement concrete Alternatively, if there are no local markets for the IBA the material is disposed of in a landfill. Recovery IBA is a secondary source of ferrous and non-ferrous (NFe) metals. Between 5-15% of the bottom ash is made up of ferrous materials, and 1-5% is NFe.
