NCBWA
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) is an association of baseball writers, broadcasters, and publicists in the United States. It was founded in 1962. The NCBWA compiles a preseason ranking of the top 35 teams in the nation, as voted on by its members. In addition, weekly rankings of the top 30 teams are released throughout the season and after the College World Series. The NCBWA awards NCBWA preseason All-American awards, the Dick Howser Trophy (Player of the Year), Regional Players of the Year awards, and All-America awards. Also the National Coach of the Year is awarded by NCBWA. 2015 LSU Tigers Baseball Team
The 2015 LSU Tigers baseball team represent Louisiana State University during the 2015 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Tigers play their home games at Alex Box Stadium as a member of the Southeastern Conference. They are led by head coach Paul Mainieri, in his 9th season at LSU. At the end of the regular season, junior shortstop Alex Bregman was selected by the Houston Astros as the second pick of the 2015 MLB Draft. Bregman was the fifth LSU Tiger to be drafted in the first round in seven years, the highest-drafted position player in LSU's history, and the second-highest overall behind pitcher Ben McDonald (1989). 2019 Michigan Wolverines Baseball Team
The 2019 Michigan Wolverines baseball team represented the University of Michigan in the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Wolverines, led by head coach Erik Bakich in his seventh season, were a member of the Big Ten Conference and played their home games at Wilpon Baseball Complex in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Wolverines finished the season with a 50–22 record, including 16–7 in conference play, marking their first 50 win season since 1987. The Wolverines received an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. They defeated Creighton in the regional finals and UCLA in the super regionals to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 1984. Dick Howser Trophy
The Dick Howser Trophy is bestowed annually to the national college baseball player of the year. The award is named after former collegiate and Major League Baseball (MLB) player and manager Dick Howser, who died of brain cancer in 1987 at the age of 51. In that same year, the award was established by friends of Howser and presented to Mike Fiore, the inaugural winner. It is considered to be the Heisman Trophy of college baseball. Six winners of the Dick Howser Trophy are members of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. Four winners—Kris Benson, David Price, Stephen Strasburg, and Adley Rutschman—went on to become the first overall MLB draft pick. Jason Jennings, Buster Posey, and Kris Bryant went on to win the Rookie of the Year Award several years after winning the Dick Howser Trophy. College Baseball All-America teams are selected each year by various organizations and consist of players who compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) intercollegiate baseball. In general, an All-American team is an honorary sports team composed of the best amateur players of a specific season for each team position—who in turn are given the honorific "All-America" and typically referred to as "All-American athletes", or simply "All-Americans". Although the honorees generally do not compete together as a unit, the term is used in U.S. team sports to refer to players who are selected by members of the national media or other organizations. 2012 Stony Brook Seawolves Baseball Team
The 2012 Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team represented Stony Brook University in the 2012 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Seawolves were coached by 22nd-year head coach Matt Senk and played their home games at Joe Nathan Field. The Seawolves clinched their second consecutive regular season championship and their fourth America East Conference baseball tournament championship, earning the league's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I baseball tournament, their fourth appearance in school history. 2016 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Baseball Team
The 2016 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers baseball team represented Coastal Carolina University in the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Chanticleers played their home games at Springs Brooks Stadium, on campus in Conway, South Carolina. Gary Gilmore was in his 21st season as the Chanticleers' coach. 2017 Oregon State Beavers Baseball Team
The 2017 Oregon State Beavers baseball team represents Oregon State University in the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Beavers play their home games at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field and are members of the Pac-12 Conference. The team was coached by Pat Casey in his 23rd season at Oregon State. 2021 Tennessee Volunteers Baseball Team
The 2021 Tennessee Volunteers baseball team represented the University of Tennessee during the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season. Tennessee competed in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Volunteers play their home games at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Coach Tony Vitello lead the Volunteers in his 4th season with the program. Tennessee reached the College World Series for the first time since 2005, but were eliminated in two games. 2018 Mississippi State Bulldogs Baseball Team
The 2018 Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team represents the Mississippi State University in the 2018 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Bulldogs play their home games at Dudy Noble Field. Due to construction of the new Dudy Noble Field, the first home game was not played until March 6, to give construction crews time to finish the bottom seating of the stadium. 2008 Fresno State Bulldogs Baseball Team
The 2008 Fresno State Bulldogs baseball team represented California State University, Fresno in the NCAA Division I baseball season of 2008. They played their home games at Beiden Field in Fresno, California. The team was coached by Mike Batesole who was in his fifth season at Fresno State. Under Batesole, Fresno State has won three Western Athletic Conference Championships in a row, and he has a 172-134 record with the Bulldogs. In a Cinderella run through the postseason, the Fresno State Bulldogs defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2008 College World Series finals to win its first NCAA Division I Championship in baseball.
