NATO Bombing Of Novi Sad
During the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, aerial bombing was carried out against the second largest Yugoslav city of Novi Sad. According to NATO press releases, the bombing targeted oil refineries, roads, bridges, and telecommunications relay stations, facilities which had military uses. The bombing of the city caused great damage to local civilians, including severe pollution and widespread ecological damage as well as lasting consequences for the well-being of the population. Fruška Gora
Fruška gora ( sr-Cyrl, Фрушка гора; hu, Tarcal-hegység) is a mountain in Syrmia, administratively part of Serbia with a part of its western side extending into eastern Croatia. The area under Serbian administration forms the country's oldest national park. Šangaj
Šangaj ( sr-cyr, Шангај) is an urban neighborhood of the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. It is situated close to the Danube, and is surrounded by the Novi Sad industrial zones, right next to the oil refinery of Naftna Industrija Srbije. It covers an area of 0.13 km². Name The old name of the area was Vrbak. In the Interwar period, the name of the settlement was Brančićevo Naselje ("Brančić's settlement"), named after Brančić who was the owner of the ''Šangaj'' snack bar, the first building built there. "Šangaj" was later adopted as the official name. The name ''Šangaj'' itself is the Serbian transliteration for Shanghai, the largest city of the People's Republic of China. Čenej () is a suburban settlement of the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. The village has a Serb ethnic majority and a population numbering 2,115 people (2002 census). Name In Serbian, the village is known as Ченеј or ''Čenej'', in Croatian as ''Čenej'', and in Hungarian as ''Csenej''. Geography It is located in the north-eastern part of the Novi Sad municipality. Ribnjak, Novi Sad
Ribnjak ( sr-cyr, Рибњак) is a small neighborhood of the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. Name Its name is derived from the Serbian word "" ("fish" in English). In English, the word "" means fishfarm. Geography The neighborhood is located on the Danube river, in the Syrmian part of Novi Sad, between Liberty Bridge and the Petrovaradin fortress, overlooking the Štrand and Liman neighborhood across the river. Ribnjak is situated on the slope hills between the Mišeluk and Trandžament neighborhoods in the east, the river Danube in the west, Sremska Kamenica in the south, and the Petrovaradin fortress in the north. Paragovo (Cyrillic: Парагово) is a hamlet in the urban area of Novi Sad and one of the neighborhoods of Sremska Kamenica, in Serbia. Rimski Šančevi
Rimski Šančevi ( sr, Римски Шанчеви) is an urban neighborhood of the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. It is mostly an industrial zone, but it is partially a residential area as well. Name Its name means "the Roman trenches". It was named like this because of land shapes ("trenches") that exist at this location. Although, these land shapes are of unknown origin, they were named "rimski" (Roman) because of the popular belief that old Romans created them. However, modern researchers agree that Romans were not builders of the trenches - it is most likely that trenches were built in the 3rd and 4th century by old Sarmatians.
