Myke Carvalho
Myke Michel de Carvalho (born October 28, 1983 in Belém do Pará) is a Brazilian retired amateur boxer, best known for his participation in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and for winning bronze medals at the Panamerican Games in 2007 and 2011. Career Carvalho stems from a boxing family, his uncle Dalgírio was a professional boxer. He started working out at the age of 11 and had his first amateur bout at 15. He won silver at the South American Games 2002 at featherweight losing to Nehomar Cermeno. He qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics by ending up in first place at the 2nd AIBA American 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At age 21 Carvalho lost at the Olympics 2004 in the men's lightweight division to Alex de Jesús of Puerto Rico, 24:39. Now at junior welter he won the 2006 South American Games. Carlos Banteux
Carlos Banteur Suárez (born October 13, 1986) is a Cuban amateur boxer from Santiago de Cuba best known for qualifying for the 2008 Olympics at welterweight. His name is sometimes misspelled Banteaux, Banteaur or Banteux by some sources outside Cuba. Career Banteur won the 64 kg World Junior Championships 2004, but struggled at senior level for years at junior welter even nationally. His best result was a second place in 2006 vs Inocente Fiss, in 2007 he again exited early. After the failed defection of dominant welterweight world champion Erislandy Lara, however, Lara was sidelined and the division was wide open. Banteur moved up and won the 2008 nationals immediately with a clear 15:6 final win over veteran Yudel Johnson. Boxing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Light Welterweight
The light welterweight amateur boxing competition was the median weight class at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The competition was held at the Workers Indoor Arena. Light welterweights were limited to a maximum of 64 kilograms in body mass. Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Five judges scored each bout; three of the judges had to signal a scoring punch within one second for the punch to score. The winner of the bout was the boxer who scored the most valid punches by the end of the bout. Karl Sharif Dargan (born June 17, 1985) is an American boxer. Nicknamed "The Dynamite", Dargan is best known for winning the gold medal at the 2007 Pan Am Games in the Men's Light Welterweight. Career Amateur Dargan began boxing at age seven in 1992 and won the PAL tournament 2005 at 125 lbs, at the National Golden Gloves 2002 on points to Lorenzo Reynolds in the finals and had to settle for 2nd. In 2005, Dargan became US champion but lost twice to Anthony Peterson at the Olympic team trials.
