Amsterdam Basketball was a Dutch professional basketball club from the city of Amsterdam, established in 1995 and dissolved in 2011. The club won the Dutch championship seven times and the Dutch Cup five times. History Early years (1995–1997) After it was announced that the Graydons Canadians, a team from Amsterdam would not participate in the Eredivisie of 1995–96, Ed de Haas, Carlo Brunink and Oscar Kales founded the club. The club immediately started playing in the highest division in the Netherlands, and was named ''Finish Profiles Amsterdam'' after the new main sponsor. In the first season Tyrone Marionneaux was the head coach and Finish Profiles ended on a 9th place. In the 1996–97 Jan Willem Jansen became head coach and new players like Mario Bennes were acquired, which led to the team winning the NBB Cup and reaching the league Finals. Joe Spinks
Joseph S. Spinks (born June 20, 1972) is an American-Dutch retired basketball player and coach. He played eight seasons for ABC Amsterdam in the Netherlands and is considered one of the best players to have played in the Eredivisie. Spinks also was head coach and assistant coach for Amsterdam for two years. Spink's nickname during his playing career was "The Bull". College career Spinks played for Cambell from 1990 to 1994, and helped the Fighting Camels to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth in 1994. In 2010, he was inducted into the Campbell Sports Hall of Fame. Professional career Spinks started his career in 1994 with Södertälje BBK of the Swedish Basketligan. BC Apollo
Apollo Amsterdam is a professional basketball team based in Amsterdam. The club plays its games in the BNXT League, the Dutch top league. The club was founded in 2011 and has been playing in the highest national level for years. The amateur section of the club is known as BC Apollo. The 2010–11 Dutch Basketball League season was the 51st season of the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden won the national championship by beating GasTerra Flames 4-3 in the finals. The season was decided in game seven in the Vijf Meihal in Leiden. 2009–10 Dutch Basketball League
The 2009–10 Dutch Basketball League (DBL) was the 50th season of the Dutch Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands. GasTerra Flames dominated throughout the regular season and lost just three games. Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden player Danny Gibson was league top scorer and won the Most Valuable Player award. GasTerra Flames eventually won its third title in team history, by beating World Class Aviation Academy Giants 4–1 in the playoff finals. It was the first year the league was named the Dutch Basketball League (DBL), after previously being known as the Eredivisie. Dimeo Van Der Horst
Dimeo van der Horst (born 23 June 1991) is a Dutch 3x3 basketball player who plays for the Netherlands men's national 3x3 team. Standing at 1.95 m (6 ft 5 in), Van der Horst primarily plays as point guard. Born in Amsterdam, he played 11 seasons of professional basketball in the Dutch Basketball League for four different clubs. Professional career Amsterdam Van der Horst started his professional career in 2007 with Amsterdam Basketball, making his debut in a friendly game during the Haarlem Basketball Week, at age 16. He was given a place on the roster of the senior team in 2008–09 by coach Arik Shivek. Jessey Voorn
Jessey Voorn (born 17 March 1990 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch professional basketball player who last played for Heroes Den Bosch. Voorn is 6 ft 4 tall and plays the shooting guard position. Professional career Voorn started his professional career with ABC Amsterdam in 2007, where he was mainly on the bench at first. With Amsterdam he won the Dutch championship in 2009. When the club was forced to play without foreign players, Voorn got major minutes with ABC. In the 2010-11 season Voorn averaged 13.7 points per game in the Dutch Basketball League. DBL All-Star
The Dutch Basketball League All-Star Gala was a yearly basketball event in the Netherlands, organised by the Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FEB). During the event the yearly All-Star Game was played, which included the best players of a given DBL season. Additionally, a dunk Contest and three-point contest were also held at the event. Since the 2017–18 season, the event is no longer organised by the FEB. All-Star Game The All-Star Game is played by two teams featuring the best players in the Dutch Basketball League, voted by fans in the Netherlands. Orien Randolph Greene II (born February 4, 1982) is an American former professional basketball player. His first two professional seasons were spent with the NBA's Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers, respectively. The Dutch Basketball League Most Valuable Player Award is an annual award given to the most valuable player in the Dutch highest professional basketball league. The award is given after the regular season and was first handed out in 1974. Peter Van Paassen
Peter van Paassen (born 20 December 1978) is a former Dutch basketball player. Van Paassen played for multiple teams in Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands. Standing at 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m), he usually played as center. Van Paassen has won the Dutch MVP award two times, which makes him one of the few Dutch players to ever win the award.
