Murchison Bioregion
The Murchison is an Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia, interim Australian bioregion located within the Mid West region of Western Australia, Mid West of Western Australia. The bioregion is loosely related to the catchment area of the Murchison River, Western Australia, Murchison River and has an area of . Traditionally the region is known as ''The Murchison''. Geography The landscape is characterised by low hills and mesas, separated by colluvium flats and alluvial plains. Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation For Australia
The Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA) is a biogeographic regionalisation of Australia developed by the Australian government's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population, and Communities. It was developed for use as a planning tool, for example for the establishment of a national reserve system. The first version of IBRA was developed in 1993–94 and published in 1995. Within the broadest scale, Australia is a major part of the Australasia biogeographic realm, as developed by the World Wide Fund for Nature. Based on this system, the world is also split into 14 terrestrial habitats, of which eight are shared by Australia. The Australian land mass is divided into 89 bioregions and 419 subregions. Each region is a land area made up of a group of interacting ecosystems that are repeated in similar form across the landscape. The Shire of Wiluna is a local government area in the Mid West region of Western Australia, about northeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Wiluna. History The Wiluna Road District was gazetted on 29 October 1909, largely formed out of part of the abolished Nannine Road District. On 1 July 1961, it became a shire following the passage of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all road districts into shires. On 1 July 1993, the eastern half of the Shire abutting the State's border with the Northern Territory was incorporated as the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku. The Shire of Sandstone is a local government area in the eastern Mid West region of Western Australia, about northeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Sandstone. History Gold was found in the surrounding area in the late 1800s with the population of the district growing to 6,000 - 8,000 people during this time. The Black Range Road District was gazetted on 28 March 1897, receiving some land from North Coolgardie in 1908, and Leonora-Mount Malcolm in 1930. The Shire of Murchison covers a large area of the Murchison sub-region of the central part of Western Australia, northeast of Geraldton. The shire and the older 'Murchison' region and goldfield are now part of the designated Mid West region. It is Australia's second least populated local government area and the only one without a town. Description The Shire of Murchison incorporates 29 pastoral stations and a population of 114. Most properties are operated by family units with their main income from cattle, meat sheep and wool, with some goats. A small tourism industry is developing in the region with some stations involved in station stays and with the Murchison Oasis Caravan Park and motel units located at the settlement providing facilities for tourists. Leinster, Western Australia
Leinster is a town in the northern Goldfields area of Western Australia. It is east of the Goldfields Highway in the Shire of Leonora, and northeast of the state capital, Perth. The town was established in 1976 by Agnew Mining, initially as a dormitory town for miners working in the nearby Perseverance and Rockys Reward nickel mines and Agnew gold mines. It was named for the nearby Leinster Downs station. Facilities at Leinster include a supermarket, service station, community school, day care centre, medical centre and tavern. Sporting facilities include an indoor sports centre, a Olympic sized pool and a baby pool, squash courts, BMX track, football and cricket oval, and an 18-hole golf course. The school is an independent public school for students up to year 12. The Leinster Nickel Operation is part of the BHP's Nickel West business group. Wiluna, Western Australia
Wiluna is a small town in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It is situated on the edge of the Western Desert at the gateway to the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel Highway. It is the service centre of the local area for the local Martu people, the pastoral industry, the Wiluna Gold Mine, and many more people who work on other mines in the area on a " fly-in/fly-out" basis. Cue, Western Australia
Cue is a small town in the Mid West region of Western Australia, located 620 km north-east of Perth. At the 2016 census, Cue had a population of 178. Cue is administered through the Cue Shire Council, which has its chambers in the historic Gentlemans Club building. The current president is Ross Pigdon. The Cue Parliament is held twice yearly in May and November. Overview and history Gold was discovered in 1892 though there is uncertainty as to who made the first find. Michael Fitzgerald and Edward Heffernan collected 260 ounces after being given a nugget by an Aboriginal known as "Governor". Tom Cue travelled to Nannine to register their claim.
