Munich (german: Landkreis München) is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It borders (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Dachau, Freising, Erding, Ebersberg, Rosenheim, Miesbach, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Starnberg, Fürstenfeldbruck, and almost encircles (except for the west and northwest sides) district-free city Munich itself, which is the district seat. History The history of the region is connected to the city of Munich. The district was established in 1852 and underwent several changes due to the ongoing incorporation of municipalities into the city of Munich. In 1972 the constant shrinking of the district was compensated by adding nine municipalities from the former district of Wolfratshausen. Geography The district is located in the east and the south of the city Munich, mostly covering the moraine plain around Munich. Garching Bei München
Garching bei München (''Garching near Munich'') or Garching is a town in Bavaria, Germany, near Munich. It is the home of several research institutes and university departments on its Campus Garching, campus. It became a city on 14 September 1990. Location The town is at , near the river Isar and the A9 autobahn, Bundesautobahn 9. Garching has a number of scientific research institutes and scientific experiment facilities located in the city, including a linear accelerator and a research nuclear reactor. The nuclear research reactor, nicknamed ''Atomei'' (atomic egg) appears in the city's coat of arms, and started the process leading to an accumulation of research institutes. A number of roads and places in the city are named after scientists, mathematicians and technical innovators such as Carl von Linde, Rudolf Diesel, Albert Einstein, Leonhard Euler, Werner Heisenberg, Max Planck, Wilhelm Röntgen, and Erwin Schrödinger. Ismaning
Ismaning is a municipality in Bavaria, Germany, located near Munich. Geography In 2016 it had 16,770 inhabitants. The town is located about seven kilometers northeast of Munich on the right high bank of the Isar River that flows into the Danube. Near Ismaning there is a large broadcasting facility called Transmitter Ismaning. The river Seebach running through the centre of the town features many different types of freshwater fish. History The year 809 saw the first documentary mention. 1319 there was a sale of the villages of Ismaning, Unterföhring, Oberföhring, Englschalking and Daglfing to the Hochstift Freising by the Duke of Bavaria and later Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in exchange for "a hundred March lotrings silver". This created the county on the Yserrain which existed until 1802. Then Ismaning became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria.
