Mounir Mourad or Monir Morad ( ar, منير مراد, 13 January 1922 - 17 October 1981), born Maurice Zaki Mourad Mordechai, was an Egyptian singer, actor and composer of popular songs. His compositions included film songs for famous stars such as Sharifa Fadel und Sabah, as well as duets for Egyptian actress Shadia and actor Abdel Halim Hafez. He played the leading roles in a few Egyptian films, the most famous being "Wishing you a Good Day" (Naharak Sa'id). Sarinda (instrument)
A sarinda or saranda is a North Indian stringed folk musical instrument similar to lutes or fiddles. It is played with a bow and has between ten and thirty strings. The bottom part of the front of its hollow wooden soundbox is covered with animal skin. It is played while sitting on the ground in a vertical orientation. The Sarangi and Nepali sarangi are similar to the Saranda. Several ethnic groups of India, e.g. Bauls of Bengal, Punjabi people, the folk artists of Rajasthan, Assam and Tripura, use the sarinda in their traditional music and dance. It is the sole accompaniment for a soloist or group folk singer(s). Munir Sarhadi (1931 – May 23, 1980) was a Pashtun-Pakistani instrumentalist, sarinda player and a folk singer. As a musician, he represented Pakistan in several countries. Munir, in 1978 became the recipient of Pride of Performance, a civil award conferred by the Government of Pakistan. Early life and career Munir Sarhadi was born in 1931 at Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was primarily playing the sarinda despite his parents wishing him to play a non-bowed string instrument. His father refused to teach him the traditional musical instrument in an effort to allow him to play the string instrument besides sarinda. Munir was persistent in his pursuit of sarinda and later became quite good in playing it. He used to perform at many music festivals and music concerts. Münir Nurettin Selçuk (1900 or 1901 – April 27, 1981) was a Turkish classical musician and tenor singer. Biography He was born in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire in 1900 or 1901. His uncle was Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire, Abdurrahman Nurettin Pasha. As a youth, Selçuk studied in Hungary before returning to Turkey and becoming a musician. In 1927, he travelled to Paris for a musical education, then began working for the Istanbul Conservatory in 1953. He was the director of the Conservatory for a total of sixteen years. Selçuk spent some time singing in stage musicals. One of Selçuk's most important legacies was the establishment of the position of lead singer in Turkish music. He died on April 27, 1981 and was buried at Aşiyan Asri Cemetery. Muneer Sait (sometimes spelled Munir Sait, born 27 May 1940) is a retired Indian field hockey goalkeeper. Sait was the goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
