Mr Gay Wales
Mr. Gay Wales - Mr. Hoyw Cymru is a Welsh gay male beauty pageant. It was founded in 2005 as part of the Cardiff Mardi Gras (gay pride) celebrations, but is now an independent contest. Heats are held at gay venues around the country with the winner of each heat representing that venue or city in the final. As well as gaining the title Mr. Gay Wales - Mr. Hoyw Cymru, the winner also has the opportunity of representing Wales in the Mr. Gay Europe Contest. In August 2006, Christopher Jones represented Wales in the European competition in Amsterdam, Netherlands. From 2007, the winner will also compete at international level in the Mr Gay International Contest in Hollywood, United States. Pride Cymru
Pride Cymru (previously Cardiff Mardi Gras) is an LGBT pride festival held annually in Cardiff, Wales on the August bank holiday weekend. Pride Cymru's Big Weekend is Wales's biggest celebration of equality and diversity. Over 3 days, Pride Cymru hosts over 50,000 people in the Welsh capital to raise awareness of equality and diversity and supporting the LGBT+ community. As part of the festival, there are various cabaret performances, funfair rides, live music, bars and food stalls, and a family area. Mr Gay Europe
Mr Gay Europe is a male beauty pageant for gay Europeans. It was founded by its former President, Morten Rudå and its current President, Tore Aasheim; and was hosted for the first time in 2005. The competition was held in Oslo, Norway and the winner was Alexander van Kempen from the Netherlands. The following year, Amsterdam was the host city. In 2006 at Amsterdam, Nandor Gyongyosi of Hungary won the title. Mr Gay Europe Contest 2007 was held in Budapest, August 5, as part of Pride Island Europa, Central and Eastern Europe's largest new International GLBTQ celebration. The winner was Germany's Jackson Netto. In 2008, again in Budapest, the competition was won by Spain's Antonio Pedro Almijez. In 2009, the competition was held in Oslo and won by Spain's Sergio Lara. Mr Gay World
Mr Gay World is a registered and trademarked annual international competition for gay men. The reigning Mr Gay World is José López Duvont from Puerto Rico. López is the first Latino winner, and the first winner from the Americas. Beginnings Before there was Mr Gay World, there was IMG Mr Gay International. Brian Merriman (owner of Mr Gay Ireland) and Tore Aasheim (co-owner of Mr Gay Europe) attended the competition with the European delegation. Merriman and Aasheim decided to create their own international competition.
