Moteurs Baudouin
Moteurs Baudouin is a French manufacturer of marine and industrial diesel and natural gas engines. The company was founded in 1918 by Charles Baudouin in Marseille, France, and later moved its headquarters and manufacturing to Cassis. In April 2009, Chinese manufacturer Weichai Power acquired Baudouin for $3.8 million, and has since consolidated its European operations under the Baudouin name. For most of its history, Baudouin built exclusively low-speed diesel engines, primarily for use in fishing vessels, but following the Weichai acquisition it began to develop high-speed engines for use in a wider range of marine power applications. Diesel Engine
The diesel engine, named after Rudolf Diesel, is an internal combustion engine in which ignition of the fuel is caused by the elevated temperature of the air in the cylinder due to mechanical compression; thus, the diesel engine is a so-called compression-ignition engine (CI engine). This contrasts with engines using spark plug-ignition of the air-fuel mixture, such as a petrol engine (gasoline engine) or a gas engine (using a gaseous fuel like natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas). Cassis
Cassis (; Occitan: ''Cassís'') is a commune situated east of Marseille in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, whose coastline is known in English as the French Riviera, in Southern France. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4, with some mixture of ethane, C2H6) that has been cooled down to liquid form for ease and safety of non-pressurized storage or transport. It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state (at standard conditions for temperature and pressure). LNG is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive.
