Montréal-Hochelaga was a former provincial electoral district in the Montreal region of Quebec, Canada that elected members to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. It was created for the 1912 election from part of Hochelaga electoral district. Its final election was in 1919. It was redistributed in the 1923 election into the electoral districts of Montreal–Saint-Henri and Montréal-Verdun, with small parts going to Montréal–Saint-Georges and Montréal–Sainte-Anne. Séverin Létourneau
Séverin Létourneau (23 May 1871 – 17 December 1949) was a Canadian politician and judge from Quebec who served as Chief Justice of Quebec between 1943 and 1949. Létourneau was born in Saint-Constant, Quebec, the son of Hubert Létourneau and of Claire Vadney Lanctôt. He was educated at the École normale Jacques-Cartier and at the Université Laval à Montréal (now Université de Montréal), where he took the LL.B. in 1884. After articling in the chambers of Louis Conrad Pelletier, he was called to the Quebec bar on 9 July 1895. He was appointed King's Counsel on 30 June 1906. A Liberal, he was President of the ''Club libéral Saint-Henri'' between 1908 and 1911, Liberal Party organiser for the district of Montreal between 1911 and 1921, and President of the ''Fédération des clubs libéraux de la province de Québec'' in 1914. Hochelaga (provincial Electoral District)
Hochelaga was a former provincial electoral district in the province of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1908. It disappeared in the 1912 election and was redistributed into Laval, Maisonneuve, Montréal-Dorion, Montréal-Laurier, Montréal-Hochelaga, Westmount, and Jacques-Cartier, with small parts going to Montréal–Saint-Georges and Montréal–Sainte-Marie. It was named after the former aboriginal village of Hochelaga on the site where Montreal now stands. The village existed when the explorer Jacques Cartier discovered territories that became New France. The 1923 Quebec general election was held on February 5, 1923, to elect members of the 16th Legislative Assembly of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, was re-elected, defeating the Conservative Party of Quebec (historical), Quebec Conservative Party, led by Arthur Sauvé. It was the first of four election victories in a row for Taschereau. However, he had held office since 1920, following the resignation of the previous premier, Lomer Gouin. Montreal is one of the administrative regions of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is also a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and a census division (CD), for both of which its geographical code is 66. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Lomer Gouin, was re-elected, defeating the Quebec Conservative Party, led by Arthur Sauvé.
