Monterrey Sultanes
The Sultanes de Monterrey ( en, Monterrey Sultans) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League based in Monterrey, Mexico. They compete in the Northern Division. The team also joined the Mexican Pacific League for the 2019–20 season following the conclusion of the Mexican League season, making them the only team to participate in both the summer and winter leagues in Mexico. History The team was formed on May 20, 1939, as Carta Blanca (a local beer brand, owned by Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma which owned the team). The team was renamed to Industriales in 1942. In 1948 it was renamed again to their current name, Sultanes. The team was also known as the Gray Ghosts. The team won its first championship in 1943. Mexican League (baseball)
The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. Five teams in each division advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the Serie del Rey, a best-of-seven championship series between the two division champions. The Mexican League has two affiliated minor leagues, the Liga Norte de México and Mexican Academy League. Though founded in 1925, the league joined the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues ( Minor League Baseball) in 1955, when it was designated a Double-A league. Héctor Espino
Héctor "El Niño" Espino (6 June 1939 – 7 September 1997) was a Mexican professional outfielder, first baseman and manager. He has been called "The Mexican Babe Ruth". Born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Espino he played from 1960 through 1984 in both the Mexican summer league and the Mexican winter league. After amassing 484 career home runs, he is recognized as the all-time minor-league home run king. 481 of those homers came in Mexico. Mexican League career Espino began his baseball career in 1960 with the Tuneros de San Luis Potosí of the Mexican Central League. In 63 games, he hit .362 with 20 HRs in just 229 at bats. Vinicio "Chico" García Uzcanga (December 24, 1924 – August 17. 2007) was a Mexican second baseman in Major League Baseball. He played for the Baltimore Orioles in the 1954 season. Listed at 5' 8", 170 lb., García batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico. Outside of MLB, García enjoyed a distinguished baseball career that spanned five different decades as a player (1946–1970) and manager (1966–1984). A solid infielder and contact hitter, García played nine Triple-A seasons in the Arizona-Texas and American Association leagues and one season in Cuban baseball, before serving as a backup infielder for the Orioles in the American League.
