Monsp Records is a Finnish record label founded by Keijo "Kepe" Kiiskinen in 1997 and owned by Warner Music Group since May 2019. From punk to hip hop Some of the first releases of Monsp Records in the late 1990s featured punk music, but since then, the company has mostly released rap and hip hop music. Their first rap release was an EP ''Aina vanteilla'' by Memmy Posse in 2002. The company's most successful release to date is the debut album ''Mustaa kultaa'' by Jare & VilleGalle which also earned Monsp Records their first Gold Record. Musta Barbaari
James Nikander (born 11 October 1990), professionally known as Musta Barbaari (The Black Barbarian), is a Finnish rapper. He was born in Finland to a Tanzanian mother and a Finnish father. Career Musta Barbaari started his career by making a video blog ''Taru painojen herrasta'' (Lord of the Weights) on YouTube and went on to release his first song " Salil eka salil vika" with the accompanying video in August 2013. The song peaked at number one on the Finnish Singles Chart. Ex Tuuttiz, formerly Tuuttimörkö, is a Finnish rapper. He started his career in a group SNTC Family with Crack-Orava, Nunton and SLTF and has since then appeared as a featured guest on albums by DJ Kridlokk and Eevil Stöö & Koksukoo. Tuuttimörkö's first solo album ''On totta'' was released on January 18, 2013. In the first week of its release, the album peaked at number three on the Official Finnish Album Chart. Seppo Kalervo Lampela (born 1976 in Helsinki, Finland), professionally known as Steen1, is a Finnish rap musician. He originally chose the name Steen Christensen, after the Danish criminal who shot two Finnish policemen in 1997, as his moniker, but changed it due to controversy. In 2004 Steen1 released his debut album entitled ''Salaliittoteoria'' (''Conspiracy Theory''). In September 2005 his second full-length, ''Varasta pomolta'' (''Steal from the Boss'') was released. Ruudolf (born Rudy Frans Kulmala in 1983) is a Finnish hip hop artist. He is known for his calm flow and energetic live performances. He rhymes in Finnish. His debut album ''Doupeimmat Jumala Seivaa'' climbed on the 18th place on Finland's official album list after its release in 2004. Ruudolf has won the Finnish freestyle and battle rap championship two times. First in 2001, being only 17 years old at the time. Ruger Hauer
Ruger Hauer were a hip hop music, hip hop and rap music, rap group from Helsinki, Finland. History The band consisted of Paperi T, Pyhimys and Tommishock and was named after firearm manufacturing company Sturm, Ruger & Co. and actor Rutger Hauer. Ruger Hauer's first studio album ''Se syvenee syksyllä'' was released in November 2010. Panu Hietaneva of ''Helsingin Sanomat'' wrote that while the album has its moments, it fails to offer real surprises. Rumba magazine gave it more positive review, citing it as the best Finnish hip hop album of the year. The group's second album ''Erectus'' followed in October 2012, reaching number 16 on the The Official Finnish Charts, Official Finnish Album Chart. In his positive review of the album, Arttu Tolonen of ''Soundi'' noticed that the group's lyrics are dark, though funny, and that the sounds of the album are escaping the boundaries of typical hip hop music. Mikko Kuoppala (born 28 October 1981), professionally known as Pyhimys (in English ''The Saint''), is a Finnish rapper, songwriter and founder of the record company Yellowmic Records. He has gained success both as a solo artist and as a member of groups such as Teflon Brothers and Ruger Hauer. He is also working as a songwriter. Notkea Rotta
Notkea Rotta is a Finnish rap group consisting of members Notkea Rotta, Rautaperse (Komisario Jyrkkä), Rohtori Laine and Meno-Anu. The group mixes humour and comedy in their brand of hip hop, crafting original (and largely fictional) rap saga of the underground culture in the east side of Helsinki. Notkea Rotta heavily parodies - or pays tribute to - American gangsta rap. Notkea Rotta released their debut single "Pohinää" with Karelia Records. Their lyrical subject matter mostly deals with common Finnish street drugs (especially amphetamine), sex and the occasional clashes with the police. The group raps exclusively in Finnish, using a lot of Helsinki slang vocabulary, making it rather difficult for non-speakers to understand the lyrics.
