The Monaghan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Monaghan GAA clubs. The Monaghan County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Ballybay Pearse Brothers are the title holders (2022) defeating Scotstown in the Final. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Mick Duffy Cup. The winners of the Monaghan Senior Championship qualify to represent the county in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. Scotstown GAA
Scotstown GAA ( ga, CLG An Bhoth) is a Gaelic football and ladies' football club in Scotstown, County Monaghan, Ireland which represents the parish of Tydavnet. History Although no precise date has been recorded for the foundation of the club, Gaelic games have been played in the parish since at least the nineteenth century. One of the earliest written accounts of a Scotstown club appeared in a January 1890 edition of ''The People's Advocate'' newspaper, referring to a game against neighbouring club Ballinode. Various clubs came and went in the parish over the first half of the twentieth century, with Scotstown winning a Monaghan Junior Football League (JFL) title in 1933, Tydavnet winning a Monaghan Junior Football Championship (JFC) in 1935, and Knockatallon securing a Monaghan JFL title in 1944. Carrickmacross Emmet's GAC
Carrickmacross Emmets is a Gaelic football club from Carrickmacross in County Monaghan in Ireland. The club was founded in 1887. The club participates in Monaghan competitions. The club has won the Monaghan Senior Football Championship eight times and have come runner-up seven times. The Club colours are Green and Yellow. The first club grounds played on were Athletic Grounds, then the Gaelic Grounds. In 1938 the club moved to its present grounds at Emmet Park, which was developed into one of the best venues in the county. It was officially opened in 1953 when Monaghan played Meath. In recent years the club secured property on the Donaghmoyne Road and have developed a full size playing pitch and a training area along with modern changing facilities that can cater for four teams. At present the site is chiefly used for training purposes for adult and juvenile teams as well as ladies and hurling teams but games can be played there when necessary. The 2020 Monaghan Senior Football Championship will be the 114th edition of Monaghan GAA's premier gaelic football tournament for senior clubs in County Monaghan, Ireland. Ten teams compete, with the winners not representing Monaghan in the AIB GAA Ulster Club Senior Football Championship due to the latter competition's cancellation. Generally, the championship uses a double-elimination format for Rounds 1 and 2 before becoming knock-out. However, for this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a round-robin system splitting the 10 senior clubs into two groups of five was used. Clontibret O'Neills are the defending champions after defeating Scotstown in the 2019 final. The 2019 competition also sees the return of Magheracloone Mitchell's and Donaghmoyne to the Senior ranks following their promotion from the Intermediate competition. Ten teams compete, with the winners representing Monaghan in the AIB GAA Ulster Club Senior Football Championship. The championship uses a double-elimination format for Rounds 1 and 2 before becoming knock-out. Scotstown are the defending champions after defeating Ballybay Pearse Brothers in the 2018 final, and will be aiming for their fifth consecutive title. The 2019 competition sees the return of Doohamlet and Currin to the Senior ranks following their promotion from the Intermediate competition. Doohamlet O'Neill's and Currin were relegated to the 2020 IFC after they finished 9th and 10th in the Monaghan SFL respectively. The 2015 Monaghan Senior Football Championship is the 109th edition of the Monaghan GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Monaghan, Ireland. The tournament consists of 10 teams, with the winner going on to represent Monaghan in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship comprises a knock-out format with a back door system for the first two rounds. Clontibret O'Neills were the defending champions after they defeated Scotstown in the previous years final, but they lost their crown to Monaghan Harps at the semi-final stage.
