2019 Monaghan Senior Football Championship
The 2019 Monaghan Senior Football Championship will be the 113th edition of Monaghan GAA's premier gaelic football tournament for senior clubs in County Monaghan, Ireland. Ten teams compete, with the winners representing Monaghan in the AIB GAA Ulster Club Senior Football Championship. The championship uses a double-elimination format for Rounds 1 and 2 before becoming knock-out. Scotstown are the defending champions after defeating Ballybay Pearse Brothers in the 2018 final, and will be aiming for their fifth consecutive title. The 2019 competition sees the return of Doohamlet and Currin to the Senior ranks following their promotion from the Intermediate competition. Doohamlet O'Neill's and Currin were relegated to the 2020 IFC after they finished 9th and 10th in the Monaghan SFL respectively. Monaghan Senior Football Championship
The Monaghan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Monaghan GAA clubs. The Monaghan County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Ballybay Pearse Brothers are the title holders (2022) defeating Scotstown in the Final. Clones, County Monaghan
Clones ( ; , meaning 'meadow of Eois') is a small town in western County Monaghan, Ireland. The area is part of the Border Region, earmarked for economic development by the Irish Government due to its currently below-average economic situation. The town was badly hit economically by the Partition of Ireland in 1921 because of its location on the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The creation of the Irish border deprived it of access to a large part of its economic hinterland for many years. The town had a population of 1,680 at the 2016 census. Emyvale
Emyvale, known before the Plantation of Ulster as Scarnageeragh (), is a village and townland in the north of County Monaghan, Ireland. It is on the main Dublin to Derry and Letterkenny road, the N2, about north of Monaghan and south of Aughnacloy. Its population is about 700. History In 1959, a Bronze Age tomb was discovered which proved that there was a settlement at the site of the village more than 3,000 years ago. Unfortunately for historians, the urn and other artifacts found were inadvertently destroyed during excavation of the tomb. The name ''Scairbh na gCaorach'' (the Irish language name for Emyvale) means 'shallow ford of the sheep', referring to a low (and easily traversable) point in the Mountain Water river on which Emyvale is situated. Pat McEnaney
Pat McEnaney (born 1960/1961/1962/1963) is a Gaelic footballer and referee from Corduff in County Monaghan. He officiated many high-profile inter-county matches, including four finals of the All-Ireland SFC. Many would rate McEnaney as the best Gaelic football referee of his time. As of 2022, he was continuing to referee. That year, Martin Breheny named him among "five of the best football referees". McEnaney also refereed several International Rules Series tests, as well as games in countries such as France, Luxembourg and the United States. Clontibret () is a village and parish in County Monaghan, Ireland. The village population in the 2016 census was 172. Clontibret is also a parish in both Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland traditions. Castleblayney
Castleblayney (; ) is a town in County Monaghan, Ireland. The town had a population of 3,607 as of the 2016 census. Castleblayney is near the border with County Armagh in Northern Ireland, and lies on the N2 road from Dublin to Derry and Letterkenny. Geography The town lies above the western shore of Lough Muckno, the largest lake in County Monaghan. The River Fane flows eastwards from the lake to the Irish Sea at Dundalk in County Louth. The 2017 Monaghan Senior Football Championship was the 111th edition of Monaghan GAA's premier gaelic football tournament for senior clubs in County Monaghan, Ireland. Ten teams competed, with the winner representing Monaghan in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship began with a back door system for the first two rounds before becoming knock-out. Scotstown were the defending champions after they defeated Clontibret O'Neills in the 2016 final to claim a "2-in-a-row" of S.F.C. titles, and they successfully defended their crown when defeating Magheracloone Mitchel's in this season's final. Donaghmoyne returned to the senior grade after a 1-year absence since being relegated in 2015. Killanny Geraldine's returned to the top flight after a 31-season exodus since relegation in 1985 when claiming the Intermediate Football League in 2016. Inniskeen Grattans GAC
Inniskeen Grattans Gaelic Athletic Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, based in Inniskeen, County Monaghan, Ireland. The club participates in both Gaelic football and hurling competitions organized by Monaghan GAA county board. In 2010, the club won its first ever Monaghan Senior Hurling Championship title. History Inniskeen Grattans was founded in 1883 and is the oldest GAA club in County Monaghan. It was founded one year before the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in Thurles. In 1888, the first County Championship was held. The final between Inniskeen Grattans and Carrickmacross Emmets, was won by Inniskeen by 0-7 to 0-0. In August 1888, Inniskeen played Cavan champions Maghera Mac Finns in the first Ulster Senior Football Championship Final in Drogheda which ended in a draw, 0-2 each.
