''Monaco Franze – Der ewige Stenz'' is a German television series from 1982/83, set in Munich. Characters and general plot The main character, the "ewige Stenz" ("eternal dandy"), is the 50-year-old Munich early-retired police detective and man-about-town Franz Münchinger. He is called "Monaco Franze" after the Italian name of Munich, Bavaria. Münchinger, played by Helmut Fischer, lives with his wife Annette von Soettingen (Ruth Maria Kubitschek), an antiques shop owner, in Munich-Schwabing in happy marriage. He loves his city and he loves Annette, whom he affectionately calls "Spatzl". And Annette loves Monaco, even though she does come from a higher social class and regularly socialises with the likes of her, who all despise Monaco because of his apparent lack of education and cultural sophistication. Helmut Dietl
Helmut Dietl (; 22 June 1944 – 30 March 2015) was a German film director and author from Bad Wiessee. Work After leaving grammar school in 1958, Dietl completed a degree in theatre studies and history of art. He then became head of photography and later assistant director to the Munich Kammerspiele theatre. He first achieved directorial success with the TV series '' Monaco Franze'', eventually moving on to create several notable films with the aid of Patrick Süskind's writing. In 1998, he was a member of the judging panel at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival. He died in Munich on 30 March 2015. Helmut Fischer
Helmut Fischer (15 November 1926 – 14 June 1997) was a popular, award-winning German actor. Life Helmut Fischer was the son of a businessman and a tailor who grew up in the Munich district of ''Neuhausen'' at '' Donnersbergerstraße 50a'', where he also went to school. When the secondary school rejected him, he joined Otto Falckenberg's drama school, which he quit after a short time. Subsequently, Fischer worked as a stage actor. In 1952, he debuted at Würzburg city theatre in the role of Albrecht III in Friedrich Hebbel's ''Agnes Bernauer''. The reviews were devastating. For almost 20 years, Fischer remained largely unknown and was only cast in minor supporting roles. Among other things, he worked at the ''Zuban'' show at Munich's Oktoberfest, playing the part of a zebra's behind. Ruth Maria Kubitschek (; born 2 August 1931) is a retired German actress born in Czechoslovakia. At the end of World War II her family fled to Köthen. Schwabing
Schwabing is a borough in the northern part of Munich, the capital of the German state of Bavaria. It is part of the city borough 4 (Schwabing-West) and the city borough 12 (Schwabing-Freimann).
