Mody Maor
Mody Maor ( he, מודי מאור; born 27 June 1985) is an Israeli-American professional basketball coach who currently serves as head coach for the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian National Basketball League. Early life Maor was born in Los Angeles and moved to Israel when he was eight. He began his national service at the age of 18. He joined the Special Forces and was an officer for the final three years of his five-year term in the army. He embarked on a career as a professional basketball coach in 2012. Coaching career In 2019, Maor joined the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian National Basketball League as an assistant coach under Dan Shamir. In 2022, he was elevated to head coach of the Breakers. The New Zealand Breakers (also known as the Sky Sport Breakers for sponsorship reasons) are a New Zealand professional basketball team based in Auckland. The Breakers compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at multiple venues, mainly Spark Arena. The team was founded in 2003 by three Waikato businessmen, Dallas Fisher, Michael Redman and Keith Ward, and remains the only team in the league to compete from New Zealand. Dan Shamir
Dan Shamir ( he, דן שמיר; born 2 February 1975) is an Israeli professional basketball coach. He was most recently the head coach for the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian National Basketball League. In 2007 and 2008 he led Hapoel Jerusalem to consecutive Israeli State Cup titles, and in 2018 he led Hapoel Holon to the Israeli State Cup title. In 2018, Shamir was also named the Israeli Basketball Premier League Coach of the Year. Early life and personal life Shamir grew up in Jerusalem, where his family is from. He is Jewish, and some of his family is ultra-religious. He played for the Maccabi Jerusalem youth team as a 5' 11" point guard until he was 17 years old.
