Mockbul Ali
Mockbul Ali, OBE (born 6 March 1981) is a British diplomat and the current British Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Haiti. Early life Ali is of Bengali South Asian heritage and was born in the UK. He is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He later completed his postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies, and has a master's degree in international security and strategy from King's College London. Career Ali joined the then Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2002. He has held a number of roles in London, including as a policy adviser on the wider Muslim world. His overseas diplomatic postings have included Political Counsellor in Egypt, Chief of Staff to the British Prime Minister's Special Envoy to Libya and British Deputy Ambassador to Bahrain. Officer Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. King's College London
King's College London (informally King's or KCL) is a public research university located in London, England. King's was established by royal charter in 1829 under the patronage of King George IV and the Duke of Wellington. In 1836, King's became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London. British Diplomat
His Majesty's Diplomatic Service (HMDS) is the diplomatic service of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, dealing with foreign affairs and representing British interests overseas, as opposed to the Home Civil Service, which deals with domestic affairs. It employs around 14,000 people, roughly one-third of whom are crown servants working directly for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, either in London or abroad. The remaining two thirds of staff are employed locally by one of nearly 270 British diplomatic missions abroad (such as embassies, consulates or high commissions). The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Haiti is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative to the Republic of Haiti. From 1913 to 1922, the head of mission in Cuba also served Haiti. The British Embassy in Port-au-Prince was closed in 1966 "for reasons of economy" and the High Commissioner to Jamaica in Kingston was appointed non-resident ambassador to Haiti. Responsibility for Haiti was transferred to the ambassador to the Dominican Republic in 1999. In June 2012 the British Foreign Secretary announced that the UK was to open a new embassy in Haiti. The new embassy was opened in June 2013, but until 2015 the ambassador to the Dominican Republic remained ambassador to Haiti, with a deputy head of mission in Port-au-Prince. Bahrain ( ; ; ar, البحرين, al-Bahrayn, locally ), officially the Kingdom of Bahrain, ' is an island country in Western Asia.
