Mitsuru Hotta
(23 July 1935 – 8 July 2015) was a Japanese botanist best known for his research on Araceae.van Steenis-Kruseman, M.J., ''et al.'' 2006Cyclopaedia of Malesian Collectors: Mitsuru Hotta Nationaal Herbarium Nederland. Hotta was born in Osaka, Japan in 1935. He graduated from the Agricultural Department of Osaka Prefecture University in 1960. The same year, he took part in the Tonga and Fiji Expedition organised by Kyoto University. The Araceae are a family of monocotyledonous flowering plants in which flowers are borne on a type of inflorescence called a spadix. The spadix is usually accompanied by, and sometimes partially enclosed in, a spathe (or leaf-like bract). Also known as the arum family, members are often colloquially known as aroids. , abbreviated to , is a public university in Japan. It is located in Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka. It is one of the most prestigious universities in Japan regarding Applied Linguistics. The university will merge with Osaka Prefecture University to form Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU) in April 2022. History OCU's predecessor was founded in 1880, as with donations by local merchants. It became Osaka Commercial School in 1885, then was municipalized in 1889.
