Miss Universe 1974
Miss Universe 1974 was the 23rd Miss Universe pageant, held on 21 July 1974 at the Folk Arts Theater in the Pasay, Philippines. It was the first Miss Universe pageant to ever be held in the Philippines, and in extension, Asia. Margarita Moran of the Philippines crowned her successor Amparo Muñoz of Spain at the end of the event, marking the first and so far only time Spain has ever won a Miss Universe competition. There were 65 delegates from around the world who competed for the 1974 title. Six months later, Amparo Muñoz, after refusing a planned travel to Japan, decided to relinquish her title. Helen Morgan, the first runner-up, was unable to assume the title and fulfill the duties of Miss Universe 1974, because she went on to win Miss World 1974, although a controversy would force her to resign 4 days later. Amparo Muñoz
Amparo Muñoz Quesada (Vélez-Málaga, 21 June 1954 – Málaga, 27 February 2011) was a Spanish actress, model and beauty queen who won the Miss Universe 1974 competition in Manila, Philippines, being the first and only Spaniard titleholder in this line of pageants. Muñoz surrendered both the title and crown after six months due to refusal to follow organizational regulations. During that time, no successor was willing nor assigned to officially take her vacated placement. After her shortened reign, Muñoz became a popular actress and starred in several comedies, including ''Mamá cumple cien años, Mama Turns 100'', and in the dramas ''Clara es el Precio'', ''La otra alcoba, The Other Bedroom'' and ''Dedicatoria, Dedicatory''. Her personal life was often shrouded in notorious events and public controversies. Karen Jean Morrison-Comstock (born August 4, 1954) is an American model and beauty queen from St. Charles, Illinois who held the Miss USA 1974 title. Pageants Comstock entered the Miss Illinois USA pageant at the suggestion of her modeling agency who owned the franchise and her sister who encouraged her to participate. Paula Zahn, an acquaintance of Comstock also competed and placed in the top five. She won and a month later represented her state in the Miss USA pageant, held in Niagara Falls, New York on May 18, 1974. Comstock won the nationally televised pageant and was crowned by Amanda Jones, also of Illinois. She was crowned in a custom-made white chiffon gown made by Alyce Hamm of Alyce Designs. Miss World 1974
Miss World 1974, the 24th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 22 November 1974 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. The event was viewed by an estimated 30 million people, and was a "Wide World Special" on the ABC Television Network. Helen Morgan of the United Kingdom was crowned the winner at the end of the event by Mrs. Julia Morley, becoming the second Welsh and fourth woman from the United Kingdom to win the title. Although it was known to the organizers at the time that she had a child as a single mother when she has crowned Miss Wales, due to intense pressure and media interest Morgan resigned four days later. Miss Universe 1975
Miss Universe 1975, the 24th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 19 July 1975 at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda, National Gymnasium in San Salvador, El Salvador. Anne Marie Pohtamo won the title for Finland, thus making her the second Finnish woman to win the Miss Universe crown after Armi Kuusela, who was the first Miss Universe winner, in 1952. After Spain's Amparo Muñoz resigned the previous year, her successor was crowned by Miss Universe 1972, Kerry Anne Wells of Australia.
