Miss Universe 1956, the 5th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 20 July 1956 at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States. There were thirty contestants on stage. The nineteen-year-old Carol Morris was the second American representative (styled as "Miss USA") to win the contest. As was normal for the event, she was crowned by her immediate predecessor, Hillevi Rombin of Sweden. Carol Morris
Carol Ann Laverne Morris (born April 8, 1936) is an American actress, model and beauty queen who was the second Miss USA to win the Miss Universe title in the pageant's fifth edition in 1956. She was crowned by Hillevi Rombin, Miss Universe 1955, of Sweden. Early life Morris was born in Omaha, Nebraska, as the only child of a minister. The family first moved to Scott City, Kansas, where she attended elementary school. After moving to Ottumwa, Iowa, Miss Morris attended Ottumwa High School where she graduated fourth in her class of 300. Morris was a champion swimmer and worked as a lifeguard, sang in the church choir, and played the violin. She attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where she was a member of the Beta Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and a decorated swim team member. Ingrid Goude (born May 26, 1937) is a Swedish actress and model. She became an actress in B-movie and sci-fi motion pictures of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Edward K. Goude. Her father was the manager of a steel plant in Sandviken. Her mother's name was Valdy. Film contract Goude won the 1956 Miss Sweden beauty pageant. As second runner-up in the 1956 Miss Universe, and 1st runner-up in Miss Europe contests, Goude signed a Universal Pictures film contract on July 25, 1956. The studio also offered contracts to the 1956 Miss Universe, Carol Morris, and Marina Orschel of Germany, the 1st runner-up. Hillevi Rombin
Hillevi Rombin Schine (September 14, 1933 – June 19, 1996) was a Swedish actress and beauty queen who was crowned as Miss Sweden and is the fourth winner of Miss Universe in 1955. She was crowned Miss Sweden Universe 1955 by Miss Sweden Universe 1954, Ragnhild Olausson. In 1996, she became the first Miss Universe title holder to die. Biography She grew up in Uppsala, Uppland, and was the Swedish national decathlon champion before she competed in the pageant. Miss USA is an American beauty pageant that has been held annually since 1952 to select the entrant from United States in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss Universe Organization operated both pageants, as well as Miss Teen USA, until 2020, when the organization announced it was licensing operation of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants to Crystle Stewart, Miss USA for 2008. Marina Orschel (born July 14, 1937) is a former beauty queen and actress. In 1956 she won Miss Germany and was 1st runner-up in the Miss Universe contest. At first her measurements were announced as 36-22-34 inches (91-56-86 cm), but she handed a measuring tape to Miss England and corrected them to 40-27-34 inches (102–69–86 cm).
