Miss Earth Sri Lanka is a pageant in Sri Lanka to choose ambassador for the Miss Earth pageant. History Sri Lanka debut in 2011 at Miss Earth pageant by TV Derana Production. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. Miss Earth 2016
Miss Earth 2016, the 16th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, with the theme "Empowered to make a Change", was held on October 29, 2016, at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines. 83 contestants from all over the world competed for the title. Angelia Ong of the Philippines crowned her successor Katherine Espín of Ecuador at the end of the event becoming the second Ecuadorian woman to win the title of Miss Earth and the first since Olga Álava in 2011. This year's edition also features the newly polished and modified crown created by Florida-based jeweler, ''Ramona Haar''. The crown's original design from the 2009 edition of the pageant to enhance the crown's general appearance and to have an intimate fit to the head of the winner. Miss Sri Lanka Online
Miss Sri Lanka Online is an annual online beauty pageant. Miss Sri Lanka Online primarily used Facebook to run the contest. It is said to be the world's first major online beauty pageant. The contest debuted in 2012. In 2019 the event got a new look with new sponsors and a more interactive website in 2019. The first event was streamed online live to a global audience on 6 December 2012. Contest The national level pageant takes entries locally and from Sri Lankans living overseas. Applicants log onto a website which then directs them to the Facebook page where they can upload a photograph of themselves which will be judged. The best 50 contestants are then selected and the public votes ('Like' on Facebook) for their preferred contestant. The top 25 candidates then provide three more photographs and a short video clip, which again will be voted for by the public. The finalists are judged by a panel. Miss Universe Sri Lanka (formerly known as Miss Ceylon) is a national pageant in Sri Lanka to choose ambassador for the Miss Universe pageant. History Miss Sri Lanka identified in 1953 with Manel Illangakoon of Colombo and became the oldest national pageant in Sri Lanka. The name of Sri Lanka previously named as British Ceylon between 1902 and 1948 then made an independence in 1948 as Ceylon. In 1953 was the first beauty pageant era in Sri Lanka by its government in Colombo. The first Miss Ceylon went to Miss World and debuted at Miss Universe in 1955 with Maureen Neliya Hingert of Colombo. In 1973 Ceylon changed its name as Sri Lanka as permanent. Miss Earth 2011
Miss Earth 2011, the 11th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, was held on December 3, 2011 at the University of the Philippines Theater, inside the campus of the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City, Philippines. Nicole Faria of India crowned her successor Olga Álava of Ecuador at the end of the event. The show was aired live by Channel V at 8:00 pm, while Star World broadcast on Sunday, 4 December at 6:00 pm, ABS-CBN and Studio 23 broadcast on the same day at 10:30 pm. There was also a delayed telecast of the show on The Filipino Channel and on the television stations of other participating countries. Miss Earth 2012, the 12th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, was held on November 24, 2012 at the Versailles Palace in Las Piñas, Philippines. Miss Earth 2015, the 15th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, was held on 5 December 2015 at Marx Halle in Vienna, Austria. Jamie Herrell of the Philippines crowned her compatriot Angelia Ong as successor at the end of the event. It was the first time the pageant was held in Europe outside of Asia. It was also the first ever back-to-back victory in Miss Earth history.
