Mirror Pond
Mirror Pond is an impoundment of the Deschutes River in Bend, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is between Pacific Power's Bend Hydro dam and the Colorado dam, between RM 166 and 167. The pond is flanked by Drake, Harmon, Pageant, Brooks, Columbia, Miller's Landing, and McKay parks, as well as a number of buildings such as Pine Tavern and private homes. Some people mistakenly consider the Galveston (Tumalo) bridge the upper boundary of Mirror Pond; others call the portion of the lake between Galveston bridge and the Colorado dam "upper Mirror Pond". Bend is a city in and the county seat of Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. It is the principal city of the Bend Metropolitan Statistical Area. Deschutes River (Oregon)
The Deschutes River in central Oregon is a major tributary of the Columbia River. The river provides much of the drainage on the eastern side of the Cascade Range in Oregon, gathering many of the tributaries that descend from the drier, eastern flank of the mountains. The Deschutes provided an important route to and from the Columbia for Native Americans for thousands of years, and then in the 19th century for pioneers on the Oregon Trail. The river flows mostly through rugged and arid country, and its valley provides a cultural heart for central Oregon. A river mile is a measure of distance in miles along a river from its mouth. River mile numbers begin at zero and increase further upstream. Drake Park
Drake Park is a park in Bend, Oregon, Bend, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It was named for Alexander M. Drake, the original owner of the site. The park is a popular downtown community gathering place and hosts many events, including the Old Fashioned Celebration. Features include nearly one half mile of riverfront on Mirror Pond, acres of open lawn, an outdoor stage, restrooms and small picnic tables. A major renovation project for the park was completed in 2003. The restrooms were upgraded, pathways throughout the park were replaced with pavers making the walkway wider, new irrigation and lighting systems were installed, bike racks were installed, a seating and viewing area was added at Mirror Pond and the High Wheel returned to the park after years in storage. Pine Tavern
The Pine Tavern is a restaurant in Bend, Oregon, United States. Opened in 1936, the restaurant is located in downtown Bend and is one of the city's best known landmarks. The main dining room was built around two large ponderosa pine trees for which the restaurant is named. Both the main dining room and the restaurant's outdoor garden dining area overlook the Deschutes River (Oregon), Deschutes River. Today, the Pine Tavern is the oldest restaurant in the city of Bend.
