Drake Park
Drake Park is a park in Bend, Oregon, Bend, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It was named for Alexander M. Drake, the original owner of the site. The park is a popular downtown community gathering place and hosts many events, including the Old Fashioned Celebration. Features include nearly one half mile of riverfront on Mirror Pond, acres of open lawn, an outdoor stage, restrooms and small picnic tables. A major renovation project for the park was completed in 2003. The restrooms were upgraded, pathways throughout the park were replaced with pavers making the walkway wider, new irrigation and lighting systems were installed, bike racks were installed, a seating and viewing area was added at Mirror Pond and the High Wheel returned to the park after years in storage. The Drake Park Neighborhood Historic District is located adjacent to Drake Park near the historic downtown area in Bend, Oregon, Bend, Oregon, United States. Because of the unique and varied architecture in the Drake Park neighborhood and its close association with the early development of the city of Bend, the area was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Location The Drake Park Neighborhood Historic District is located in Bend, Oregon. It includes 17 city blocks with 83 individual residential lots. The streets that constitute the boundaries of the district are Riverside Boulevard on the north and west next to Drake Park; Tumalo Avenue on the south; Broadway Street on the southeast; and Franklin Avenue on the northeast corner. Mirror Pond
Mirror Pond is an impoundment of the Deschutes River in Bend, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is between Pacific Power's Bend Hydro dam and the Colorado dam, between RM 166 and 167. The pond is flanked by Drake, Harmon, Pageant, Brooks, Columbia, Miller's Landing, and McKay parks, as well as a number of buildings such as Pine Tavern and private homes. Some people mistakenly consider the Galveston (Tumalo) bridge the upper boundary of Mirror Pond; others call the portion of the lake between Galveston bridge and the Colorado dam "upper Mirror Pond". Bend Park & Recreation District
The Bend Park & Recreation District is the agency which protects the parks, natural areas, recreational facilities, gardens, and trails of the city of Bend, Oregon. History Bend formed a recreation department and hired its first director in April 1949. Before then, summer youth activities were organized jointly with the local school district. Sites were maintained by the public works department until 1964 when the maintenance and recreation programs combined to form a new Parks and Recreation Department.
