Mirage Yachts
Mirage Yachts Limited was a Canadian boat builder initially based in Pointe Claire, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal and founded by Dick and Irene Steffen. The company specialized in the manufacture of sailboats. The company was founded in February 1972 and went out of business in 1989. History The Steffens had owned a yacht dealership for C&C Yachts, that was located in Pointe Claire. The company had done good business selling C&C boats, but the C&C line did not offer a boat smaller than the C&C 27. Dick Steffen was a competitive sailing racer and thought that there would be a good market for a C&C 24 foot keelboat. At his request C&C designed the boat, but decided not to proceed with production. Steffen bought the design from C&C, founding Mirage Yachts in February 1972 to build the design. Ian Bruce (sailor)
Ian Bruce, (7 June 1933 – 21 March 2016) was a Canadian sailor. He competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics and the 1972 Summer Olympics. Along with Bruce Kirby, he invented the laser dinghy, which has been used at the Olympics since 1996. Biography Bruce was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1933, before moving to Nassau, Bahamas after World War II. He then moved to Canada, where he attended Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario, before studying at McGill University in Montreal. He married his wife, Barbara, in 1958. Her brother was Donald Brittain, a film director for the National Film Board of Canada. Bruce competed at two Olympic Games. At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Bruce competed in the Finn event, where he finished in seventh place. Vaudreuil-Dorion () is a suburb of Greater Montreal, in the Montérégie region of southwestern Quebec, Canada. The result of the merger of two towns, Vaudreuil and Dorion, it is located in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional County Municipality. History On 23 November 1702, governor of New France Louis-Hector de Callière gave a seigneury to Philippe de Vaudreuil, who was governor of Montreal at the time. A spar is a pole of wood, metal or lightweight materials such as carbon fibre used in the rigging of a sailing vessel to carry or support its sail. These include yards, booms, and masts, which serve both to deploy sail and resist compressive and bending forces, as well as the bowsprit and spinnaker pole. Robert Perry (yacht Designer)
Robert H. Perry is a U.S. yacht designer based in Seattle, Washington. Among his designs are some of the most successful cruising yachts in modern cruising such as the Tatoosh 42, Tayana 37 and Valiant 40. Through his career he has designed boats for many well recognized names in the yachting industry, such as Tayana, Cheoy Lee, Valiant, Baba, Ta Shing, Islander, Passport and Saga. Perry has taught yacht design at Evergreen State College. Early life In 1957 when Robert H. Perry was twelve, he and his family moved from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver, British Columbia. The C&C 25 is a series of Canadian sailboats, first built in 1973. C&C also produced the unrelated C&C 25 Redline design. Production The boat series was built by C&C Yachts in Canada, but it is now out of production.
