Minnesota State Highway 270 (MN 270) is a state highway in the southwest corner of Minnesota, which runs from its intersection with County State-Aid Highway 13 (CSAH 13) in the city of Hills, and continues east to its eastern terminus at its intersection with U.S. Highway 75 (US 75) in Clinton Township, south of Luverne. Route description MN 270 serves as a short east–west connector route in southwest Minnesota between Hills and US 75. Its route follows 1st Street in Hills. Hills is a city in Rock County, Minnesota, United States. Located approximately four miles (6 km) from the South Dakota border and two miles (3 km) from the Iowa border, it is the southwesternmost city in Minnesota. Rock County is a County (United States), county at the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 9,704. Its county seat is Luverne, Minnesota, Luverne. History The county was formed on May 23, 1857, by act of the territorial legislature, but was not organized at that time. The area was designated ''Pipestone County'', and the name ''Rock County'' was attached to the present Pipestone County, Minnesota, Pipestone. The organized system of Minnesota State Highways (typically abbreviated as MN or TH, and called Trunk Highways), the state highway system for the US state of Minnesota, was created in 1920 under the "Babcock Amendment" to the state constitution. No real pattern exists for the numbering of highways. Route commissioning beyond these routes was by legislative action, thus the term legislative route. This included additions and revisions that took place when US and Interstate Highway Systems were commissioned. Minnesota state highway markers use Type D FHWA font for all route numbers and type C for three-digit route markers only if type D font cannot be used. All routes except interstates use or markers. Interstate markers for three-digit routes are wider shields, and respectively.
