The Ministry of Health of the State of Palestine is a government agency in the State of Palestine. The ministry is controlled by the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. After Hamas' takeover of Gaza in 2007, Hamas governments have appointed alternate health ministers for the Gaza Strip. The ministry is one of Palestine's four major healthcare providers, alongside the Military Medical Services, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNWRA), NGOs, and the private sector. It operated 27 of Palestine's secondary and tertiary hospitals and 61% of total hospital beds. As of 2023, the Minister of Health is Dr. Mai al-Kaila. Mai Al-Kaila
Mai Al-Kaila ( ar, مي الكيلة; born 8 April 1955) is a Palestinian doctor, diplomat and politician, and the first woman to hold the position of Health Minister of Palestine. She holds a PhD in public health and health administration. She chaired the Palestinian Medical Council in her capacity as Health Minister. Background Mai Salem Hanna al-Kaila was born in Jerusalem on 8 April 1955. She received her basic and preparatory education in the schools of Birzeit, and her secondary education at the Private College in Ramallah. She studied nursing at the Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem. The Gaza Health Ministry is the government agency responsible for healthcare and medical services in the Gaza Strip of the Palestinian territories. It operates under the administration of the Hamas authority that has run the territory since 2007.
