Mina Carlson-Bredberg
Wilhelmina Carlson-Bredberg (1857–1943), known as Mina, was a Swedish painter. She is particularly well known for her portraits, and scenes from contemporary life. Biography Bredberg was born on 2 September 1857 in Stockholm to wealthy parents who participated in Swedish cultural life, and her uncle was the noted newspaper publisher and critic Lars Johan Hierta. As a teenager she took private painting lessons from Kerstin Cardon. She was also taught by Elisabeth Keyser. At the age of twenty she was obliged by social convention to marry a family friend, Vilhelm Swalin, whom she had been observed kissing. For the seven years of her marriage she relinquished her painting career. She left her marriage in 1885 to travel to Paris to resume her training, alongside many of her Nordic female contemporaries. The Académie Julian () was a private art school for painting and sculpture founded in Paris, France, in 1867 by French painter and teacher Rodolphe Julian (1839–1907) that was active from 1868 through 1968. It remained famous for the number and quality of artists who attended during the great period of effervescence in the arts in the early twentieth century. After 1968, it integrated with . Amanda Sidwall
Amanda Carolina Vilhelmina Sidwall (25 July 1844 – 11 January 1892) was a Swedish painter and illustrator. She studied in Paris in the 1870s and had works exhibited at the Salon (Paris), Salon in the early 1880s. Biography Sidwall was born in Stockholm on 25 July 1844, the daughter of tanner Sven Lorentz Sidwall and his wife Frederica Christina. Together with her sister Mathilda, she first studied ornamental and figure drawing from 1860 at the Konstfack, Arts and Crafts School in Stockholm. She was among the first group of students to study at the women's department of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts when it opened in 1864. Together with fellow-student Anna Nordgren, she then continued her studies under Tony Robert-Fleury at the Académie Julian in Paris (1874–77), developing a much freer style, as can be seen in her portrait of Mina Carlson-Bredberg. Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde (Swedish for ''Cape Waldemar''), is a museum located on Djurgården in central Stockholm. The name is composed of Waldemar, an Old German noble male name, and udde, meaning cape. It is derived from a historical name of the island Djurgården, ''Valmundsö'' (see History of Djurgården.) History It was the former home of the Swedish Prince Eugen, who discovered the place in 1892, when he rented a house there for a few days. Seven years later he bought the premises and had a new house designed by the architect Ferdinand Boberg, who also designed Rosenbad (the Prime Minister's Office and the Government Chancellery), and erected 1903–1904.
