Mikala Dwyer
Mikala Dwyer is an Australian artist born in 1959 in Sydney. She is a contemporary sculptor who was shortlisted with fellow artist Justene Williams to represent Australia at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Education In 1983, Mikala Dwyer attended the University of Sydney and in 1986 received a Bachelor of Fine Art. Dwyer also spent time at the Middlesex University from 1985 to 1986 in the United Kingdom. In 2000, Dwyer earned her Masters of Fine Art at the University of New South Wales, College of Fine Art. Dwyer also trained under Professor Stan Douglas at Berlin University of the Arts from 2005 to 2007. Career Dwyer has been producing work for exhibition since the early 1980s, developing a career in installation and sculptural work. National Association For The Visual Arts
The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) is the national peak body for the visual arts, craft and design in Australia. It advocates for the sector as well as undertaking research and policy development and providing direct services to its members. It publishes its research. It was founded in 1983. Since then, it has brought about policy and legislative change to encourage the growth and development of the sector, re-established the Artists' Benevolent Fund, lobbied for the sector during the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, written submissions to government and inquiries, and much more. Cockatoo Island (New South Wales)
Cockatoo Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the junction of the Parramatta and Lane Cove River in Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. Cockatoo Island is the largest of several islands that were originally heavily timbered sandstone knolls. Originally the Island rose to above sea level and was but it has been extended to and is now cleared of most vegetation. Called ''Wa-rea-mah'' by the Indigenous Australians who traditionally inhabited the land prior to European settlement, the island may have been used as a fishing base, although physical evidence of Aboriginal heritage has not been found on the island. Between 1839 and 1869, Cockatoo Island operated as a convict penal establishment, primarily as a place of secondary punishment for convicts who had re-offended in the colonies. Site-specific Art
Site-specific art is artwork created to exist in a certain place. Typically, the artist takes the location into account while planning and creating the artwork. Site-specific art is produced both by commercial artists, and independently, and can include some instances of work such as sculpture, stencil graffiti, rock balancing, and other art forms. Installations can be in urban areas, remote natural settings, or underwater. James Angus (born 1970) is an Australian artist known for 'his engaging and rigorously crafted sculptures'. Biography James Angus was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1970. Angus holds a degree in Fine Arts from Curtin University of Technology and a Master of Fine Arts (Sculpture) from Yale University School of Art. He has also lectured at UTS.
