Middle Santiam River
The Middle Santiam River is a tributary of the South Santiam River, long, in western Oregon in the United States. It drains a remote area of the Cascade Range east of Sweet Home in the watershed of the Willamette River. It rises in the Cascades in eastern Linn County in the Willamette National Forest, about half a mile west of Iron Mountain. It flows briefly north, then generally west and southwest through the mountains and Middle Santiam Wilderness. In central Linn County it is impounded at the Green Peter Dam to form the Green Peter Reservoir. Approximately downstream from the dam it joins the South Santiam from the northeast as an arm of Foster Reservoir. Kalapuya People
The Kalapuya are a Native Americans in the United States, Native American ethnic group, people, which had eight independent groups speaking three mutually intelligible dialects. The Kalapuya tribes' traditional homelands were the Willamette Valley of present-day western Oregon in the United States, an area bounded by the Cascade Range to the east, the Oregon Coast Range at the west, the Columbia River at the north, to the Calapooya Mountains of the Umpqua River at the south. Today, most Kalapuya people are enrolled in the federally recognized Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon; in addition, some are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz. In both cases descendants have often intermarried with people of other tribes in the confederated tribes, and are counted in overall tribal numbers, rather than separately. Foster Reservoir
Foster Reservoir is a reservoir created by Foster Dam on the South Santiam River in the city of Foster, Oregon, United States. The reservoir is approximately long and covers approximately when full. Primary use of the reservoir is recreation in the summer and flood control in the winter and spring. Recreation Lewis Creek Park is a recreation area located on the north shore of the reservoir. The park includes a roped-off swim beach, picnic areas, barbecues, paved trails, lake accessibility for shoreline fishing and boat moorage. The park is operated by the Linn County Parks Department. Sunnyside Campground is a park located on the eastern edge of Foster Reservoir. The park has 165 campsites including 132 campsites with electrical/water hook-ups, a dump station and restroom/shower facilities. Willamette Riverkeeper is a non profit organization formed in 1996 in order to protect and restore the Willamette River's water quality and habitat. Quartzville Creek
Quartzville Creek is a tributary of the Middle Santiam River in Linn County in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is paralleled by the Quartzville Back Country Byway and used for recreation, including camping, fishing, hunting, kayaking, and gold panning. The lower of the creek, from the Willamette National Forest boundary to Green Peter Reservoir, was designated Wild and Scenic in 1988. Course The creek, beginning at an elevation of about between Pinnacle and Gordon peaks in the Cascade Range, flows generally west and southwest through Willamette National Forest. Green Peter Reservoir
Green Peter Reservoir is a reservoir created by Green Peter Dam on the Middle Santiam River northeast of Sweet Home, Oregon, United States. The reservoir is approximately long and has a surface area of approximately when full. The reservoir is used for hydropower, recreation, flood risk management, water quality, irrigation, and as a fish and wildlife habitat. Recreation Whitcomb Creek Park is a rustic park with 77 basic camp sites, 4 pull-through sites, and a boat ramp. Whitcomb Creek Park also has a separate group camping area that holds up to 100 people. Thistle Creek Boat Ramp is on the north shore of the reservoir. It is open year-round, and the boat ramp was extended in 1999 allowing access to the reservoir at winter low pool. Quartzville Group Camp, roughly up Quartzville Drive, is available to rent. Green Peter Dam
Green Peter Dam is a concrete gravity dam impounding the Middle Santiam River in Linn County in the U.S. state of Oregon. It was completed in 1967 to generate hydroelectricity, prevent flood damage, provide irrigation, and improve water quality downstream. Water released by the dam is regulated by the Foster Dam down the river. Green Peter Reservoir, created by the dam, is a popular area for fishing, boating, and other water sports. The Middle Santiam Wilderness is a wilderness area located near Mount Washington in the central Cascade Range of Oregon, U.S., within the Willamette National Forest. Topography The Middle Santiam Wilderness ranges from steep slopes, high peaks, and ridges at the higher elevations to gently sloping and bench-like terrain in the lower elevations. Willamette River

Sweet Home, Oregon
Sweet Home is a city in Linn County, Oregon, United States, with population 8,925 at the 2010 census. Built near the site of a prehistoric petrified forest, Sweet Home experienced substantial growth during the construction of the Green Peter and Foster dams in the 1940s. The town's main attraction nowadays is the Cascade mountains through Santiam pass. History Settlers first arrived in the Sweet Home Valley in the early 1850s. A community known as Buckhead developed near the mouth of Ames Creek and the South Santiam River. Buckhead was named after a saloon that featured a set of elk antlers on the gable end of its building. East of Buckhead, a community called Mossville developed with a store and post office.
