Micronesian Games
The Micronesian Games (or Micro Games, MicroGames) are a quadrennial international multi-sport event within the Micronesian region. The Games were first held in 1969 in Saipan (Northern Mariana Islands). The 2010 Micronesian Games were initially due to be held in Majuro (Marshall Islands), until the hosts withdrew. The 2010 Games were hosted by Palau. The Federated States of Micronesia won the bidding to host the 2014 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei State, and later won again against CNMI for the 2018 Micronesian Games to be held in Yap State. History After the inaugural 1969 edition, the Games were supposed to be a regular event. However, the second edition did not take place until 1990. Micronesia
Micronesia (, ) is a subregion of Oceania, consisting of about 2,000 small islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It has a close shared cultural history with three other island regions: the Philippines to the west, Polynesia to the east, and Melanesia to the south—as well as with the wider community of Austronesian peoples. The region has a tropical marine climate and is part of the Oceanian realm. It includes four main archipelagos—the Caroline Islands, the Gilbert Islands, the Mariana Islands, and the Marshall Islands—as well as numerous islands that are not part of any archipelago. New Nauru Stadium
New Nauru Stadium is a planned stadium for the Pacific island nation of Nauru. History Since at least 2011 the government of Nauru had planned to construct a new 10,000-seat national stadium on reclaimed phosphate mining land in the interior of the island as part of the island's unsuccessful bid to host the 2017 Pacific Mini Games. The venue, with a projected construction cost of AUD $4.2 million, would then have served as the home of Australian rules football in Nauru. In July 2022 it was announced that Nauru had been selected to host the 2026 Micronesian Games, the first time the nation had been selected as host. As part of the announcement, Minister of Sports Maverick Eoe announced the upcoming construction of relevant and much-needed sports infrastructure projects, including an athletics stadium. New Marshall Islands Stadium
The Majuro Track and Field Stadium is a 2,000-capacity Olympic-grade track and field and association football stadium currently under construction in Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands. Once complete it will be the centerpiece of football in the country. The structure will also serve as a large seawall in the densely populated part of Majuro which has become inundated with seawater through the effects of climate change, particularly during king tide. History The stadium was originally designed as a venue for the 2023 Micronesian Games. After negotiations with local landowners, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in early May 2019. 2023 Micronesian Games
The 10th Micronesian Games will be held in Majuro, Marshall Islands. After initially being scheduled for July 25 to August 5, 2022, the competition was originally delayed a year because of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, including finishing construction of the New Marshall Islands Stadium. This will be the first time that the Marshall Islands will host the tournament, having been announced as host in July 2018. The Marshall Islands received unanimous support after the Northern Mariana Islands withdrew their bid to host. The Marshall Islands Soccer Federation had indicated that the nation may field its first-ever national soccer team at the games. However, in March 2023 MISF President Shev Livai stated that football would not be part of the tournament. Yap Sports Complex
Yap Sports Complex is located in Abay, Gagil, Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia. It is the national stadium and the home of Yap sporting events. 2018 Micronesian Games
The 9th Micronesian Games were held from July 15 to July 27, 2018, in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. Participating nations Ordinarily, there are 10 participants at the games. However, Nauru were unable to compete in this edition due to travel costs. As such, the participants at the games were: the four constituent states of the Federated States of Micronesia ( Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap), three sovereign countries (Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau) and two insular areas of the United States (Northern Mariana Islands, Guam) all located within the Micronesia region.
