MicroIllusions
MicroIllusions, based in Granada Hills, California was a computer game developer and publisher of the home computer era (late 1980s to early 1990s). MicroIllusions, as a company, was a strong supporter of the Amiga and typically released titles on that platform before porting it to others. Activision cancelled them as an affiliated publisher after a year of signing them up. The company went out of business in or about 1990. General The company impact has been summed up as, "During MicroIllusion’s brief existence they produced some visionary software that, like so much else that came out of the Amiga scene, gave the world an imperfect glimpse of its multimedia future. Photon Paint
Photon Paint is a Hold-And-Modify (HAM) based bitmap graphics editor for the Amiga, first released in 1987. Photon Paint was the first bitmap graphics editor to incorporate 3D solid modeling and texture mapping as an integral part of the program. Photon Paint was programmed by Oren Peli, Eyal Ofek, and Amir Zbeda at ''Bazbosoft'', an Israeli software house. It was published by MicroIllusions of the US and distributed all over the world. The program sold some 250,000 units and received a best of breed award from Amiga World magazine. ''The Faery Tale Adventure'' is a 1987 action role-playing video game designed by David Joiner and published by MicroIllusions for the Amiga, and later ported to the Commodore 64, MS-DOS, and Sega Genesis. The MS-DOS version is titled ''The Faery Tale Adventure: Book I''. Microillusions also released a "Book 1" version for the Amiga which was going to be the start of a series of games, according to Talin, but bankruptcy prevented it. The initial version was produced for the Amiga 1000 and featured the largest game world to that date. A sequel, ''Faery Tale Adventure II: Halls of the Dead'', was released in 1997. Gameplay The gameplay resembles that of ''Ultima VII'' (1992). It had the largest game world at the time of release, with over 17,000 screens. David Joiner
David "Talin" Joiner is an American game programmer, who created games such as ''The Faery Tale Adventure'' and ''Inherit the Earth'', contributed audio to '' Defender of the Crown II'' (1993), engineering for '' SimCity 4: Rush Hour'' (2003), and '' The Sims 2: University'' (2005). Career as programmer Joiner learned Assembler, Fortran, and COBOL programming between 1976-1980 at the Strategic Air Command headquarter in Omaha, Nebraska. In his spare time he coded a space war game on terminals. At the location he also became familiar with coding on Commodore PET, and the Apple II. After leaving the military he joined DataSoft and worked in a professional programmer environment. He then became part of IntelliCreations, and then Mindscape, then begun working on the Amiga 1000 and with MicroIllusions, which started out from a computer store in San Fernando Valley. Ebonstar
''Ebonstar'' is a computer game developed by MicroIllusions in 1988 for the Amiga. The player character commands a fleet of spacecraft around an ever-moving, extremely dangerous black hole in this space-based competition set in the 31st century. The player fires the fleet's weaponry at opponents' spacecraft to knock them into the black hole and destroy them. However, the black hole also spits out more opponents as well. ''Fire Power'' (also ''Firepower'') is a military tank action game developed by Silent Software for the Amiga. It was released in 1987 and published by MicroIllusions and Activision. Ports were released for the Apple IIGS, the Commodore 64 and for MS-DOS in 1988. An Atari Lynx version was planned but development never started due to internal conflict with Epyx. Summary The gameplay consists of controlling a tank through an expansive, outdoor landscape. Each map has at least two bases - one for the green team, and one for the yellow (red in the PC version) team. Initially, the base locations were hidden from the players, so an extensive search of the landscape had to be conducted first. MobyGames is a commercial website that catalogs information on video games and the people and companies behind them via crowdsourcing. This includes nearly 300,000 games for hundreds of platforms.
